On demand is such a great feature! I was looking for something good to watch since there typically is nothing on at 0800hrs in the morning so I decided to load an oldie but goodie "Gunga Din". Of course as soon as I start watching it my son wakes up and I assumed my TV time was over. To my shock he stared blankly at the black and white movie and asked what was wrong with the TV screen. I told him that I was watching a old movie that I enjoyed alot when I was a kid. After about 10 minutes worth of convincing him that "Gunga Din" was much better then saturday morning cartoons he finally gave in and decided to give it a whirl (with a short little relapse of extra convincing about 5 minutes in when I told him the movie was made in 1939). 10 minutes in it was a whole different story my son was absolutely glued to the TV screen. He absolutely loved Gunga Din. In fact he liked it so much he wanted to watch it again.
I look back now and I realized that I was doing what my dad did with me several years ago when I was a boy just about the same age as my son (8). Needless to say I enjoyed watching his expressions and answering all his questions. I think he enjoyed it just as much as me so I think we are gonna make it a point to make saturday mornings father/son oldie but goodie movie time. Next up is "Fort Apache", I told him John Wayne was in it and he said "who?" I just shook my head and said you have alot to learn kid. I was wondering if any one else has had such an experience with their kids where you thought your kid would absolutely hate the movie because it was made so long ago but come to find out they enjoyed it just as much as you.

cute story...I like the bonding of you and your son...

when I was a little boy...my Dad always made time for me...he was a great Dad...an every night ritual together was...we would watch the Wild Wild West...the old tv series with Robert Conrad...on the couch together...just me and him...I loved it...best show ever I thought...still a fond memory of a time with my Dad...

about 7-8 years ago I was flipping channels...I found an old rerun on some obscure channel and called my dad quickly...I told him to watch turn on that channel...the Wild Wild West was on...I hung up and watched 10 minutes of it before turning it off...it was terrible...worst show ever I thought...hahaha...

I called my dad and asked..."How did we watch and enjoy that crud years ago?"...he just laughed and said he watched 5 minutes of it and flipped channels cause it was so bad...

maybe it's the time he's spending with his Dad that he likes...

great story bud- BTW- 1 post to go till you hit 1,000!!!

My eldest son and I have really started bonding over silver age sci fi flicks- 50's era. My wife picked up the old Flash TV shows from back in the day and we watch those religously. We are also fans of the horror flicks from waaayyy back- Lon Chaney, the wolfman, Frankenstein, etc. all good stuff!! The B&W setting really helps the scariness of those films.
