Hi all: a few months ago, I discovered a small collection of Britains Deetail (BD) Civil War figs in a local hobby shop. Remembering seeing similar figures in a toy store glass display case when I was a kid, I had to pick up a few. A subsequent visit would have me buying the store out of what they had left. Here's a few shots of the figures with a few small additions from CTS and Safari.

What I particularly like about the BD figs are the metal bases adding an extra bit of weight. The new figures from Argentina have new colors but they lack the metal bases.

Comments welcome.

Very Nice ! I grew up with Britains Deetail as a kid...Really enjoyed them then & now...

Thanks Joe - I regret not buying the WWII figs as a kid. At the time (early 80s), I was into the Knights. A friend and I would build castles out of dominoes making a game out of it. They were fun times. I'll post some shots of the Knights in the future.

Saw the new Confederate Butternut series. They would be a nice addition to your collection, if you don't have already. Ted Toy Soldiers is selling a set of six I believe for $16. I did not check whether the Treefrog Treasure shop is selling the set.

I only had two of my original WW2 Britains Deetail soldiers make it...I have been buying the Britains Deetail vehicles & soldiers on EBAY...At times you can get some vehicles & soldiers for a good deal !
Would like to see your knight pics...

Yeah I also had a big ACW Deetail collection back in the early '80s. Their re-releases with upgraded painting are very impressive! Before I sold up many years ago, I remember having both Gatling Guns (die-cast) for both Confederates and Federal Troops, as well as brass-barrelled 'Napoleon' 12-pounders complete with limbers and 6-horse teams and riders (incl. 3 seated on the limber). The large limber wheels were also metal I think. I wonder if W Britains might re-introduce these, considering how important the artillery was to this awesome war?

Will have to check those out - thanks.

That would be nice to see Steve. Unfortunately, I have not seen any newer BD guns/cannons or WWII vehicles. I do like the CTS cannons (have two; one pictured) and my WWII French Farmhouse can easily be converted to an old Civil War building.

I started to paint some of these back in 1970s but I was frustrated that Britains used the same mold for Union and Confederate (Like Herald did) so that you get a figure that is neither one side nor another. Canteens are the drum style which was out of date by then and worn on the wrong side. The coats are neither, sack, shells, nor frock. They ARE great sturdy toy figures ans I wish I'd kept the ones I had. I also let my Swoppet CW go as well. Those were fun!

Great shots of your collection. These newer runs look pretty good even with the details a bit off for purists.
