You know- I was looking at my 401k statment this evening and then comparing that to the information I have compiled while tracking a sample of my figures from my collection and their sales prices on Ebay and other 3rd party sources. The fair market value of my Toy Soldiers is far outpacing my 401k!!! And this really isn't just driven by K&C figures but most of my figure lines across the board.

I guess that's why they say to diversify!! If only we could convince the government to let us purchase toy soldiers tax free- just send a chunk of our paychecks to a vendor like Treefrog and spend our money pretax and defer the earnings till we are 59 1/2.

Chris,

I think the difference is that whoever is holding your 401K funds is probably out there buying and selling to improve your return whereas with the toy soldiers, you only have a paper gain until you sell.

Agreed- it was just a funny thought I decided to share with everyone. I am now a CPA so what you are basically describing- in our jargon- is realized versus recognized gains and losses.

 Oh my god, I am surrounded by attorney's and CPA's. My worst nightmare has come true. I have to deal with you guys every day in my professional life, now I have to socialize with you (even if it is long distance electronic media). Oh my world is slowly srinking and I am becoming trapped by lawyers and accountants.:( Oh well, at least I have my toy soldiers, until Pete pushes that button.... :)

Allright fellow sharks, lets commence circling, I smell blood (or toy soldiers, even tastier!) . . .

BRING IT!!! :p

George- Warrior here on the Treefrog site- will vouch for me- I'm a solid 6'2" 240 so make sure you pack a lunch :D :D

You'll have to take my troopers from my cold, dying hands!! :p

And you are going to have an even harder time as they all have a contingency order to attack ANYONE -opposition, wife, kids, etc, who try to make them break ranks from my formations.

Pack a lunch? I'm hiring some body guards. I'm 5'9 and (thanks to dieting for the last 4 months and losing 30 pounds) under 200.

me 6'5" 270 there abouts. What the heck does size really matter. I always bring a gun to knife fight any way. Lawyers! Well everyone has to make a living. Sharks don't eat lawyers, professional courtesy you know. Sorry stream of consciousness thingy just sort of blurted out:eek:

Nice work Louis! Feel better do we?

I do feel better, now the key is keeping it off. Rob is also trying to reduce at the momment to ease the strain on his bad back, and I am pulling for him too.

Become a Firefighter, my pension far outweighs my collection. And you can be a good guy too.....51 more working days, and I become a former Fire Chief and full time (collector) Battle Scene Maker at 55 years old:D :) :D :) .

You attorneys and accountants are sure talking a good game so far on this thread:p , but aleast your not BANKERS. Oh no, now I've gone and done it. The bankers, attorneys, and accounts will unite and form an unstopable mass that will take over the world as I know it. OH MY, I certainly did screw up.

Anyway, I still have my toy soldiers and nobody can find that darn button. :)

I guess to add salt to an already open wound- I am the best of both worlds- a CPA with a law degree

Just kidding- no tax attorney work for me.

I actually work for one of the biggest firms in the world- we contributed $500,000 to the WW2 monument creation here in the States- more than any other firm in public accounting (funny because we are listed right behind ENRON  )- in fact, more than all the others COMBINED!! (PLus, the state of Pa was the highest contributor for a state too!!!) We have also nearly raised $100K in response to the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Like us or not, we are excellent corporate citizens. In fact, my firm created an internal resource for families of employees who had/have a family member deployed over in Iraq/Afghanistan.

I specialize in State and Local government audits. No matter what you guys think of us CPAs or attorneys for that matter, the world would be a much more disorganized miasma of chaos without us.

Also, back on topic- I actually meant when I posted this topic that the rate of return on my toy soldiers is higher than my 401k. I typically earn 8-13% a year on my 401k. I bought KC Waffen SS set WS 21 FOR $20.14 and watched it go for $275 last month on Ebay. Go figure.

STANDS ALONE!!
CC;)
