This is a four episode series (aired in the US on PBS) where four British actors explore the history of their grandparents during WW II. The four actors are Helena Bonham Carter, Mark Rylance, Kristin Scott Thomas and Carey Mulligan.
I have seen the first two episodes where Helena Bonham Carter finds out more about Violet Bonham Carter, who was quite famous, and her Spanish grandfather, Eduardo Propper de Callejón, the Spanish counsel in Bordeaux, who saved thousands of Jews from by granting them transit visas.
In the second episode Mark Rylance finds about his grandfather who worked for HBSC in Hong Kong and became a volunteer soldier and was taken prisoner by the Japanese when the Japanese invaded Hong Kong in December 1941. This one may be of interest to Andy.
The program reminds me a bit of “Finding Your Roots” and if you can find it, it’s quite interesting and worth a watch. It’s also on Amazon Prime.
