Ana is making me the bugler and drummer from the accessory set to add to this group and I will post them when received.

Congratulations. I have been considering this set as well, but think I need to remain focused on the Delhi Durbar.

It would be great if you could take a photo of these askari in their "natural environment" (and I am not referring to a book case or display case).

I love the German Colonial sets from BG. Once I have the drummer and bugler I will put them in some scenes for your enjoyment. Ana will be issuing another set soon of the schutztruppen in grey and khaki.

What a wonderful set. I have alwayd liked the German officer riding the zebra.

Randy, what is the flag made from? It looks too perfect to be painted.

The flag is a glossy paper. This appears to be a change for BG since the older sets had painted metal flags I believe.

I'm all for metal flags and I remember the Britain colour party flags, of the 80s and 90s, being thin cardboard. I'm also glad that they are part of the past. Maybe not as bad as the plastic drums. Having said that a metal flag can make a figure top heavy with a tendency to make the figure fall over or to make the flag pole bend from the stress.
I have a Napoleonic flag bearer from Tradition which I keep lying down for fear of the flag pole snapping or bending. When I do have the figure standing in a diorama I prop up the flag with a wall or something.

Cheers

if Beau Geste ventures into samurais, i honestly believe it'll give monarch regalla stiff competition.

Set 89A-German Colonial Troops in Africa in WWI.

Very nice Tommy! They definitely look like men on a mission and the background makes it look like it goes on for miles and miles.
Best regards,

I just finished an article concerning the domestication of foxes in Russia in "National Geographic". The comment was made that Zebras were almost impossible to train like horses. Apparently, the Germans in Africa in WWI had more success.

I have heard that zebras are not easily domesticated and have a nasty streak.

Yikes Brit--the pressure's on! {eek3} I welcome guest commentary and you guys on this thread all run circles around me in your favorite areas of history and vintage toy soldier knowledge so feel free to submit articles of interest anytime.

Tommy, I had heard that about zebras as well but after Ana Donzino provided the clipping above I did more research and found a few other instances where people successfully trained zebras so I guess anything's possible if you can outstubborn the zebra.
Regards,

Tommy, great set and great addition. I too love the zebra. Children and animals are always a welcome addition to any set.

Thanks Andreas. I think Laura's figures make such great gifts for grandkids for that reason.
