Thomas Wilkinson, a telegrapher before the Civil War, has returned to Richmond, Virginia where he was born. Surveying the destruction of his beloved city, he has vowed to participate in the reconstruction of Richmond and his state. As an experienced telegrapher, Tom has been hired to help rebuild the city's lines of communication.
