I found these in Rome while on vacation a month ago. I never seen them before and I didn't have time to dropped into the shop but they looked interesting. Anybody ever see these before or know about them?

All those soldiers beckoning to you and you didn't go in???
Do toy soldier shops grow on trees in Italy? They are so rare here in the midwest that I think I would have HAD to go in and investigate.
Congrats on your trip to Italy--I had forgotten you were planning that excursion.

I think there are a lot of different toy stores in Italy. I know the K & C distributor services a lot of stores there.

The knights look Russian. The Axis personalities and the Italian WWII troops look like larger 75mm composition figures from perhaps Elastolin or Hauser.

Here is some more toy soldiers I found in Siena but they're much smaller.

Some of them are really nice. There are so many manufacturers it is hard to know where to begin. What a nice window display.

The square based WWII personalities are Lineol from the 1930's, knights are Russian "St Petersburg types, looks like some Alymer and bunch of other larger scale figures I can't ID.

I can't believe that owner of that shop put antique composition figures in the window exposed to sunlight (snicker)!

I know that there are a number of local producers of toy soldiers and knights in Italy. The figures tend to be pretty crude and really expensive for what they are.
