Greetings everyone. We're about to announce all of our new releases for October and I thought we'd start off first with a special set that's been a pet project of mine. We are expanding our horizons in that we are now creating figures that don't necessarily fit into our previous "unit" based release strategy but are more a grouping of figures meant to convey a particular scene, usually non-combat in nature. Our first such effort is the "Death of Marshal Lannes" just after the battle of Aspern Essling in 1809. We have other such sets in the works and we certainly hope that customers enjoy this change of pace as much as we've enjoyed creating it!

Marshal Jean Lannes was one of Napoleon's greatest Marshals and a close friend of the Emperor. Lannes was wounded during the Battle of Aspern Essling in 1809 where his actions on the field were primarily responsible for averting a French disaster. His leg was amputated by Chief Surgeon of the Army Larrey, but he never recovered and died shortly after. Set NAP0389 depicts the moment as described by Baron de Marbot, Lannes' Aide Camp, when Napoleon came to see the Marshal shortly after his operation. This set was inspired by an 1894 lithograph which itself is based on the detailed Memoirs of Baron de Marbot who was present at the events depicted. The lithograph is shown below and we hope you agree that we have faithfully recreated one of the few moments in Napoleon's career where he displayed the human side of his character so often overshadowed by his ambition and megalomania. To complete the scene depicted, sets NAP0390 Baron de Marbot and NAP0391 Grenadier of the French 7th Line Infantry are also available. Set's NAP0389 and NAP0390 are Special Collectors Sets limited to 300 of each. We sincerely hope you enjoy these new sets and somewhat different approach than what we've done in the past.

We certainly hope you enjoy the new sets! Oh, and as a final point, this is the official answer to the question that I've received more than any other over the past month or two which is "Who is that Napoleonic figure on the top of the First Legion website??" He is Baron de Marbot! ; -)

Best,

Matt,

I love seeing makers producing vignettes of groups of figures from famous events.

Being a Napoleonic collector, I'm so glad that you have gone down this path, and made a scene off the battlefield, and showing the reality of war... people DO get killed and wounded.

I do like the poses of Baron Larrey and his blood splattered apron, and the look of anguish on Napoleon's face,

Well Done!!

Thanks also for identifying the 'mystery face' from your new banner, he is a striking figure.

John

PS the other wounded troops in the backgroun really set of the scene!!

Some very nice sets coming out soon from First legion, and really enjoy the different angle that First Legion have come up with lately beside the general battle poses, no matter what line it may be from very cool, this Naps set is a perfect example I really like the "Doc" in this set as well as Marshal Lannes, great job to all the crew at First legion again for some well thought out sets...Sammy

A must have. Now, what d i sell to buy this and the new light infantry sets....?

Like Obee I had spotted a mystery Nap character on the First Legion site marquee and wow it was worth the wait! What a vignette! A great addition to my Nap collection. You made my (Nap collector) day! Thanks. ^&grin

I, too, am impressed by this vignette. Not only is it very well done and spot on with the artwork which inspired it, but it also represents an interesting 'new direction' for First Legion. While I am sure we will still see plenty of great 'regimental' releases, small vignettes like this one offer the collector a little something new. I am excited to see where Matt goes with this concept.
