Interesting you would say that. It was Napoleon who freed the Jewish Population from the oppression of the Catholic Church when he conquered the Papal States in Italy.
All Jews were forced to live in slums and under the edict of the Papal Authority all Males were forced to where little Yellow Hats (interesting - where have we seen things like that) to mark them as Jews for the rest of the population.
It wasn't until Napoleon came and removed the Papal Authority - did the Jewish Population in Italy experienced true FREEDOM. Also laws which oppressed other religions were removed during his reign in all lands under the French - true religious freedom.
So I wouldn't get out the rope too quick.
