Hello,

I have a question that hopefully people with more knowledge than me can help with, I don't have any books on artillery and have hit a wall with my research.

The FL 9 pounder, although being a beautiful set, does not have any chains affixed to the field gun. I have more often than not seen pictures with chains hanging across the front of the frame and along the length of it. What were these chains used for and would the gun ever be fired without them, as FL have depicted?

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris ,
Although I'm no expert on Artillery , I think that the Carriage walls were covered with hooks , Chains and other attachments thats purpose was to take equipment , tools and forage during the march . They had nothing to do with the firing of the gun . Regards Gebhard
