I gather that there are quite a few Napoleonophiles out there? ...:)

Here's a piece that I have been working on for a couple of months now, in-between other projects. I've culled some of the photos from my web blog to create this photo essay. I am only posting this here as I feel confident of completing the piece.

Figure being painted in oils.

Started to paint more on this figure now that other projects are completed. Modest progress. I leave the straps off until the painting is completed.

I dusted this figure off and started to complete the painting. The decorative piping was done. The tunic, facings and cuffs were refreshed and shadows added. The face was highlighted. Some minor repairs and defects will have to be rectified. When this has dried, the straps. sword and left hand and fife will be fixed in place and final painting will occur.

I removed the hands for the next stage. After rechecking my references, I replaced the backpack straps for thinner strips. Then the sword strap was fixed into place with the sword attached. A fife case and strap was draped over the figure. A plaque with the number "3" was fixed to the strap.

The last pic shows the fife case which was made from a thick wire and detailed with thin metal strips. The fife case was attached to the strap.

New hands are being sculpted for the figure. These were carefully attached. The figure was mounted onto its proposed base.

Added a nameplate to the round base. The nameplate was carefully curved and epoxied to the base, with a rubberband to hold it in place until the glue had set.

I decided to substitute a smaller base for this figure. Then also decided to add a fence to set off the figure.

Final painting and detailing will commence soon.

Managed to get a clearer pic. The fence was painted in a basic dark brown.

I painted gold onto all the parts such as buttons, fife case, sword, shako plate and cords. I reworked the legs and the right calf.

More rework.

I noticed that the nose is off-centre. I prised the figure off its base and reshaped the nose, built up the area under the right arm and worked more on the legs. All part of the fun, I think.

So during the enforced curfew on miniatures, I decided to shorten the legs to represent a younger boy. The legs were cut off and wire was inserted to strengthen the legs. When the calves were sculpted, I added a buckle strap to just below the knees on each gaiter.

Well, I had misplaced this figure for quite a while. I finally found it lurking with the GI Bastogne figure. I swear that these figures are alive and go for walkies by themselves.

Some of you may recognize this base which was given over to the ACW Black musician.

I will try to complete this figure soon on a new base, wife and domestic bliss notwithstanding...

Hello KV,

Thanks for your kind comments. I may add more foliage to the base in the future.
