I was curious if anyone might know of a good source on Napoleonic French infantry formations. For example where officers/drummers etc marched in formations. Any help is greatly appreciated, I have some ideas, but a more solid lead would be awesome.
Best,
Josh

Josh,
Try the Osprey title on Napoleonic French Infantry tactics, they also do one on British and Prussian tactics as well, they are well illustrated with formations.

The French usually attacking in either column, line or square formations when it came to infantry...............

On this topic I would recommend "Napoléon on the Art of War" by Jay Luvaas which is basically a compilation of the Emperor's correspondence on this very matter + trategy, etc., so basically first hand source!

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your excellent replies.
George,
I have the French one and you're right it is very good.
Fubar,
This is perfect thank you!
Grognard,
I have actually been eyeing that one myself, thank you!

Josh

You are welcome Josh! Just found another one I forgot about in my Napoleonic library that is relevant to this topic: "Tactics and the Experience of Battle in the Age of Napoleon" by Rory Muir.

Happy reading!
