Thanks Wellington. That demonstration of Cannon firepower was awsome. What it must have been like at battles like Trafalgar is beyond belief, and at very close range too.

No problem...I love the navy during this time period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WELLINGTON

Yes its fascinating,i understand Osprey have a new book on the Navy in this period coming out soon.I must have visited HMS Victory half a dozen times since i was i kid and always enoyed it.Never ceases to amaze me how people lived worked and died on a ship like that. And when you stand on her and try and imagine what it was like being press ganged into service and perhaps never seeing home again, sends a shiver down your spine.I stand there look up at the rigging and think there is no way i could climb that here in dry dock, let alone while she was rolling about on a rough sea.:eek:They were made of tough stuff in those days weren't they?.Maggots in your food and as Churchill put it ' Rum,Sodomy and the Lash'. No thanks,i'm a land lubber through and through!!!

Rob

You have been on HMS VICTORY.....you are very lucky, maybe one day I could have the previllage to do the same.

WELLINGTON.....

Yikes! I read a lt of O'Brien books. It is one thing to read about the slivers and another thing to see them flying through the air!

Yes the wounds must have been horrendous, and with primitive medical treatment it must have been horrific.

Glad to hear you ae on the mend Rob. I realised why I had been painfree. No drywall work. I did some yesterday and last night was not good. Took some Aleeve and felt a lot better afterwards. Maybe some day I will get to the London show.

Thanks Capitolron....The ships of that era remind me of works of art...each with their own personality...and a crew to help out along the way.....

Wellington

I love it !

Unfortunately - All of Napoleon's French Fleet is an underwater National Park  - thanks to his Lordship Nelson !! ;)

Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like to serve in one of those ships of the line. But in peace time;)
