Armies-in-Plastic.....I saw these on Steve Weston's site in the UK...

Neat! I see uses for other troops to. CW/WBTS militia, early 1800s US militia. Heads could be used for US Mexican War. Put Zouave heads on them and you have Crimean War Turks!

Have you seen Fubars new Prussain landwehr figures? There metal castings not plastics but they look real nice! He converted a bunch of his french and russains into various Prussians. I,m trying to get some painted up and have my whole desk covered in primed Prussians castings and plastic russians conversions awaiting paint, over a 100 of them. I,ll post some pictures if I ever get around to finnishing them up. I,ve started on the prussian landwehr and plastic russian conversions already but I,ve got way to many figures I,ve begun to get paint on, I think I need to lower the number of figures so I don,t burn myself out.
I,ve always wanted to see prussian landwehr but these plastics don,t do much for me? I,ll stick to Fubars(Blackcat miniatures) castings, maybe he,ll do them in plastic in the future???

He does have some great castings. Hard to beat for the price. The level of detail is wonderful. I should be buying more. Soon perhaps.:)

Have to agree i would much rather spend the extra $$.. on the Blackcat kits
AIP did some great Arty sets but there infanrty sets are getting a little boring
they seem to just pump out the same poses

AIP do the same or similar poses with most sets of infantry - a bit of variety would be welcomed although the Crimean Cavalry are different and individual

The poses are the same because a lot of companies will just convert older figures into new figures by removing detail and adding new detail to convert them into various other figures.
Frontlines whole Napoleonic line was done like this. Looks like AIP line will do the same. If I see that same officer pose again I think I,m going to be sick!:p

Hi

these AIP are very static in their anatomy - I remember a guy in Scotland who supplied me with the first sets 10 years ago saying that he asked AIP to vary the poses, otherwise collectors would get bored with the sets as they are issued - looks like what he said is true to a certain extent.

On the other hand the sets contain few figures such as musicians, wounded, etc. that you don't need after buying one set. I like massing lots of figures in the period formations so having the basic firing and charging poses are fine with me. Officers are appreciated figures but the pointing with pistol pose IS getting old. I've asked Mr. Ciccarello about giving the officers swords and he said that there is a problem with "short shots" in the casting process with small details like swords. Seems to work with cavalry though.

AIP figures seem to be plastic versions on the old Britains hollow cast lead figures. You have to give AIP credit for a wide range of periods and subjects.

Scott

you are quite correct

I think that they do need to look at varying the poses though.

Look how varied the poses in the Imex sets are for example, however, I dont want to sound ungrateful and all sets by AIP are welcome, but maybe they should listen to collectors requirements as we are the customers at the end of the day!
I have bought over 200 sets of AIP over the years - surely we can put forward some suggestions which are acted upon, so that we keep buying many more sets. This is good business sense.

Well, those are somewhat usefull, I'll probably get a couple boxes, lopp off some parts, paint on grey militia uniforms. The officer and the Odd advancing guys can be targets for my Airsoft full auto 2000 round S.A.W.
Thats always fun.
IF and it probably will never happen, but if I did Landwehr in plastic I'd do them with field cap and covered shako. Dont count on it.
Price of everythings gone thru the roof and minimum of 1 year production time.
$$$$ up front.:(:eek::mad:

Just look at the threads where guys are upset with conte. Fuel costs, plastic costs, labor shortages in China, Endless hold ups overseas, year long waits from test shots to product.
Aip is doing them pretty fast though. Must have good connections in CHINA.
