What was Napoléon's personal connection with the USA (and no, it is not the Louisiana purchase :wink2:)?

His brother Jerome had a short-lived marriage to Elizabeth Patterson.

Correct answer! Well done Blaster!

Yes, Jérôme Bonaparte when in the US got married to Elizabeth Patterson (an American) who gave him a son: Jérôme Napoléon Bonaparte (born in England). Napoléon thought this marriage was not a good fit for his brother and his family and got it voided. As we know Jérôme went to marry Catharina of Württemberg and became King of Westphalia...

Eventually, though, he moved to Bordentown NJ, and started a railroad company. He was quite wealthy (duh), and had a beautiful estate which was torn down in the last 60 years. His decedents include the U.S. Secretary of the Navy under Roosevelt, and the founder of the F.B.I..
