Where in Paris can you "see" the cannons captured by the French army during one of the most famous battles won by Napoléon?

I'd suggest it is in the courtyard of Les Invalides.

I was there last year, and took some photos of them, but I'm sure where they came from and if they were captured by Napoleon.

Can I have another go ????

Lunchtime is finished, so I'd better do some work....

BUT....

The Place Vendôme Column is my answer

The column was designed by Lepère and Gondoin and received many different names - first the 'Austerlitz Column', then the 'Victory Column' finally becoming the 'Colonne de la Grande Armée'. Lepère supervised the melting down of the 1200 artillery pieces taken from the Russians and Austrians. The following inscription was engraved on the abacus of the capital: 'Monument erected to the glory of Napoleon the Great's Grande Armée, begun on 25 August 1806 and finished 15 August 1810'.

Correct answer John (when do you work :wink2:?). Yes the "Colonne Vendôme" is made of cannons captured at Austerlitz! It is interesting to know that it was dismantled in 1871 during the short lived revolution "La Commune" and then rebuilt in 1874. The guy at the top of the column is of course Napoléon!

Trooper, sorry no cannons at the "Arc de Triomphe"...

Correct answer John (when do you work :wink2:?).

Monday to Friday, but have flexi time, so real hours setdown.

We have internet access and can have 20 minutes per day using the work PC for private use, hence when I'm having lunch or tea/coffee break, I check out The Forum, see what Trivia Question is posted, and do a search.

regards,

John
