In 1808 Napoléon fed up with the barbaresque raids that even reached Brittany looked for a man who was fluent in Arabic, looked like a local and who had the technical skills to gather intelligence to prepare for a landing in a specific town in North Africa where these pirates were based. He found the right man among the French army (not a mameluk ;))who did gather excellent intelligence by mingling with the locals without them figuring out who he really was. That said the landing didn't happen until 1830 due to more pressing issues in 1809 but the French army did use and validated the intelligence with a successful operation. Who was this gifted man who was able to fool all Arabic people until his death in the Syrian desert in 1815 and what is that city in North Africa?

Correct answer! Now Vincent-Yves Boutin was Colonel not Captain :wink2:.
