A drummer boy was invited to Paris in 1804 to attend Napoléon’s coronation. What was his name and why did he get this unexpected invitation from the Emperor?

Ply can't find this one! I have poured over online books for 1.5 hours, and just can get it! I am so curious though....

Andre Etienne. At Arcola when the French were held up by the Austrians he swam the river with his drum on his head and, on reaching the other side beat the charge, causing the Austrians to think they were surrounded and giving the French the chance to charge and win the day.Trooper

Back from Europe! Yes Trooper, André Estienne "Le Tambour d'Arcole" is the correct answer. Please see http://www.beyond.fr/villages/cadenet.html for the full story.
