No more than 3 versions of this bronze object were made during the 1st French Empire. What is it?
Hi Grognard,
It's the eagle for the regiment flags
first model : 1804
Second model : 1811
Third model : 1815

Correct answer Valmy! {bravo}}
Yes, this is the famous Napoleonic Standard Eagle.
The Eagle was the symbol of Imperial Rome and of the 1st French Empire.

The first version (1804) was of the best quality and the heavy one. The second version (1810-11) was much lighter. The third version made during the 100 days was less detailed since it was made in a hurry. The Eagle was set on a top of a box bearing the regiment number.
Cool! Totally went the wrong direction with the question. Congrats Valmy!

Forgot to mention that the picture above shows an Eagle of the 3rd version...
