Pity he didn't get to Oz, John, he would have liked the Jacob's Creek offerings. Trooper

Napoleon's Navy did get around our coast in the 1800's and especailly around the curent wine growing area south of me, Margaret River.

Little did they know that 200 years later names such as Cape Mentelle, Cape Naturaliste, Clairault Estate, Fermoy Estate, Hamelin Bay, Leeuwin Estate, Vasse Felix, which are all wineries in that region, take the name for the French explorers of the expedition by Nicolas-Thomas Baudin that Napoleon encouraged as part of the scientific expansion of the time.

If they had know that grapes could be grown in the region AND make award winning wine, this part of Australia could be speaking French, eating coissants AND drinking wine (insead of beer :))

Actually brandy is not wine since it is distilled, that said Napoléon's favorite brandy was Courvoisier cognac. I personnally prefer armagnac :smile2:
