Hello, I am a new member to this forum, signed up yesterday, and hope to find some information about a wonderful collection of early zinnfiguren I have, I would guess there are between 850-1000 pieces. They date from 1890 - 1920 with the majority being from the Napoleonic Wars and some from the 7 Year Wars and WW1. They are primarily French and Prussian with a very few British. The WW1 group has about 90 pieces. The are all extremely well painted and in very good condition, from a single collectio amassed over many years by a very knowledgable and avid collector. I am trying to determine an insurance value for them but an having some difficulty getting an idea of their worth. Any information on these remarkable soldiers would be most appreciated.

Hello, ruby, and welcome to the forum!

Do you have any pictures you can post of any of the figures? To help identify flats, it's helpful to have a pic of the shape of figures' bases as well. Some manufacturers can be identified by the shape of the base, and some also included marks on the bases.

Do you happen to have the original boxes? Also, how tall are the figures? Are they of uniform scale, so that all of the foot figures are of the same height, from the soles of the figure's feet, to the top of his head (or where the top of his head would be, if he weren't wearing headgear)? Same would go for the mounted figures as well, are they all of the same scale?

I would venture a guess, without having seen them, but just from the info you've provided, that they are German in origin, because the flat is the traditional and still preferred style of the German figure makers, and still produced today.

Prost!
Brad
