Just thought I would share this recent purchase with you.....The date on it was the exact date that the French left the town and the majority of Napoleon's cannons were captured...the bell is numbered "18"on the top which wasn't noticed by the seller....my thought is that the bell is bronze melted down from Napoleons cannons and given to German Officers who were at the battle..this was a common practice...another nice piece to add to my militaria collection....also picked up a another beautiful Brown Bess from a family who had it in storage...it hadn't been cleaned in 200 years....

Thanks very much for your comment...you have to scroll down the EBAY page to see the picks...I have showed this bell to some very big bell collectors who have told me not only have they ever seen anything like it but they have never seen handles on the side of a bell such as this...interresting to note the handles look very much like the handles you seen on cannons...
