Howdy,
I want to paint a modern US Naval Academy band, but can't find finding suitable castings. I haven't found any among the usual casting vendors. London Bridge has a basic band figure that could work, but it will take some work to get right. I know Bill the Bandman used to provide a very nice painted set, but I'm looking for unpainted castings to while away the long Texas summer.
If anyone can point me to possibilities, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

You mention Bill the Bandman, and he was the first person I thought of-to ask if he would provide castings for you to paint. It can't hurt to contact him and ask. Otherwise, I can't think of anyone who produces a figure of a USNA bandsman, ready to go from the mold.

Also, do you want to depict the winter uniform (blue jackets & trousers, white shirt, ties) or the summer uniforms (white shirts & trousers)?

Do you have any experience modifying or converting figures, and in casting figures? My thought is that you'd be able to use the Prins August toy soldier kits. The basic body is a British guardsman, so you'd have to modify the tunic into the double-breasted jacket, and add the tie and collared shirt. That can be done with putty, and then you'd have a new master to make a mold and cast the bodies. Then you'd just need the right heads. The peaked cap included in the PA set has the wrong shape for an American peaked cap, and its peak is too flat against the figure's head. But it could be done.

Prost!

i believe a mould of mine does contain Naval Academy band figures in their blues. Both a female and male. I will try and find it and Cast a few figures. They utilize eyes right instruments.

May take a few days to find the mould, and cooler weather to cast. The great north is to hot right now.

Hi Don & Brad,
Thanks to both for your responses. I am looking for the dress blues.
Don, please let me know if you find anything. I certainly understand about not casting in the heat.
Again. much thanks!
