Thanks for the hint Chris .....you can wet and rub sculpey when soft and get a smooth effect but things sorta go ape when you try to shape it.....finger marks everywhere.....the sandpapering is the best solution yet...thank you...regards TomBTry when the sculpt is still flexible and add water to your fingers and rub it smooth and when it hardens sand it. Try it and maybe a new result. Chris.
Thank you for that info Mike....I will try the Vaseline out some time today....no worry about the flammable bit....I baked the sculpey in a frypan....sometimes resting on a tissue and have not had any tissues go up in smoke....yet......that site look good...will check it out more thoroughly later....... regards TomB,, PS...the Google translate...never heard of it...interestingA lot of the larger scale figure sculptors use a tiny bit of Vaseline to smooth the surface before baking Sculpey. Just a little- it can get messy with too much. Probably flammable, too. On a different note, this guy's work (http://www.diorama.ru/authors/mbukhvalov/) reminds me of your caricature style figures. He uses the Russian equivalent of Sculpey, and in 54mm. (I rely on Google Translate to figure the text out. Get some strange phrases sometimes! ^&confuse)
