I'm not a huge fan of Leno, but I simply can't understand why NBC continues to replace him given the ratings success of the Tonight Show. The Conan experiment was a complete disaster. I know people who watch Leno and really enjoy him. Mostly older types with middle of the road humor. They not only disliked Conan, they hated his guts. Ratings collapsed. Repeating that fiasco is bizarre. It's a case study in corporate mismanagement. Someone believes they need a younger audience and simply can't be dissuaded.

At least Fallon is much closer to a Leno style of appeal than Conan was. I never could get comfortable with him and stopped watching the Tonight Show. If they are going to replace hosts, and Leno and Letterman are near retirement, it would have made more sense to replace Letterman with Conan and Leno with Fallon. And there is much more going on behind the scenes. Lorne Michaels is the Producer of Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock - both filmed in NYC. He wanted to produce the Tonight Show and could do it only in NYC. I also think that the staff of the Tonight Show work for Leno's production company and not for NBC which makes the move to NYC cheaper and easier for NBC. And remember that Leno going to 10 pm bothered a lot of people in show business because it took out an hour of prime time drama and some celebrities wouldn't go on his show or Conan's Tonight Show.
