I ,at this point own several DD13 and DD14 jeep and trailer sets...Some were not opened till now and that is what has me confused...Some of the sets have rolling wheels and a "made in Hong Kong" sticker on bottom.......some have solid molded in resin wheels and some are a mix...Other than the slight differences in paint application, the vehicles all do look alike. If both jeep sets came out at same time, why the differences in wheels.....? Is one type more valuable than another? Thanks, Michael

Michael,

If I understand you correctly, you're saying on some of the wheels move and on some they don't. If that's what you're asking, I can't answer why but I know this happened also with the Patton Command Car and they are considered variations. A lot of collectors will collect both types.

Yes, Brad, some have axles with rolling wheels, while some have solid molded wheels. Since, at that time, I did not believe K/C had rolling wheels...I want to verify their authenticity.......Michael

My DD 14 has rolling wheels if that means anything. Don't have the DD 13 so I can't say for that.

Early production versions of several wheeled vehicles, including these jeeps, the Patton command car and the Rommel staff car, came without rolling wheels. After the first 200 or so were sold, a second casting with rolling wheels was sold. All of your vehicles are legit K&C, some are early production for the piece, others later production.

Well I never knew they had free spinning wheel on any of those sets. It pisses me off because I sold my Rommel staff car, and jeep set because I was so disappointed with them!

Yup, they did, which raises the question, why? These are not toys. Must be a throwback to when we were kids.

what where the production numbers of these earlier sets,
and about what year did K and C,s popularity realy start to
gain headway.

cheers Rob

The early polystone vehicles were usually ordered by Andy with an initial run of 200, followed by either 200 or 100 piece runs (depending on how quickly the item sold out). K&C really started taking off right around the release of Saving Private Ryan, with the launch of the D-Day series and expansion of the WS series.

Hi Louis
Thanks ,i,ve got a couple of older sets on the way
so I,d wondered what sort of quantitys the early polystone
stuff came out in.
cheers Rob

In the book, when I didn't know the exact production numbers for a vehicle, I left blanks, and forwarded the chapter on polystone vehicles to Gordon Neilson to provide the numbers. I haven't heard back yet, but assuming Gordon comes through I should be able to provide exact production numbers for all of the polystone vehicles.

Great stuff louis ,
where do you find the time, I struggle to find time to read a book let alone write one.
