Hello Friends:
I was contacted by a friend who is an executor of an estate. Included in the estate is a large collection of vintage glossy toy soldiers. I was able to identify a few of the sets as W. Britains. Other than that I know very little about collecting glossy toy soldiers (I collect Matt and wargaming miniatures only). I decided to post here to see if anybody can give me some more information on the figures. In addition to the photos below, there are also 7 boxes of “hand painted traditional style toy soldiers/ made in England/ St#607/ French and Indian Wars” along with a special display case. My friend is interested in determining the value of the collection and finding a seller who will buy the entire collection.

Thanks for the help

-Bryan

Bryan,
Can only help with the figures on the fourth photo - third row. From the mounted officer on the left to the mounted officer on the right -Looks like Imperial except for the mounted figure to the right which is King & Country. Should that mounted King & Country come up for sale, please do not hesitate to contact me. Lawrence

Can observe a significant portion of the collection to be sets manufactured by W. Britains Ltd. post World War II. All of these sets are hollowcast and certainly desirable with a broad population of toy soldier collectors. While valuable as complete, correct composition sets if in good to near-mint condition, their value is greatly enhanced (often doubled) if the set's original box is present, and in good condition as well. I can specifically identify several of the Britains sets, but would have to break out several catalogs in order to provide you with the set numbers requisite to do a search at auction sites. There are a small group of sets that I can positively identify as Imperial Productions from New Zealand. You can do quite a bit of the appraisal yourself by checking past and recent auction prices realized on the following web sites; Old Toy Soldier Auctions USA (http://www.oldtoysoldierauctions.com/) and Vectis Auctions Ltd. (http://www.vectis.co.uk/Page/Index.aspx). You have to register to use the Vectis database, but it is free, and a valuable resource. If you are so inclined you can visit my blog page and see several of the same Britains sets. The site is located at; http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com . Check first; http://arnhemjim.blogspot.com/p/britains-minatures.html. Hope this information is of some assistance.

Hi Bryan,

There are a large number of WBritians as everyone has indicated, There is also a nice grouping of Imperial Figures including two mounted Officers on is on the shelf with the Imperials in White Helmets and the other is a mounted Scot a couple of shelves up. Can you get a better set of photos for the last mob with the Armored Car from WWI? I see some things in there taht look familure but need a better photo or two.

Dave

Yes, if you can get us some closer photos, that would help. I thought I saw a Stadden or two in there, too. Also, can you get shots of the boxes that you mentioned?

Prost!
Brad
