I have never set out to collect WW1 aircraft but I have gravitated to German aircraft when I have picked them up. Why? I think someone told me once that Confederates sell better than Union figures, WW2 German rather than allied or Napoleonic French rather than allied. You get the picture.

I suppose its that WW1 aircraft had the hero of the 'Red Baron', and are more colourful with the 'Flying Circus'. and we just love the Germans. I suppose manufacturers also make more of what sells with Tom from TG telling me German aircraft both WW1 & WW2 always sell better.

Anyway time I concentrated a bit more on the allied side of things.

Beautiful air force you have, Gary. Quite a selection of manufacturers, too. I see JJD, KC, and TGM, all very nicely done. The TGM RE-8 and Roland Walfisch are particularly nice pieces, although I love them all. The German aircraft, especially the fighter aircraft, are just a lot more colorful than the more practically camoflaged Allied planes. Besides, it is very hard to resist the lure and legend of the Red Baron. Just ask Snoopy.:wink2::salute:: -- Al

Hi Gary,

You kept this quiet! What a great collection, I am a self confessed WW1 nut as you know but, I also have a penchant for WW1 aircraft. Do I see you have the Albertross DV in there? JJD? I missed the very last one of these at the LTSS a couple of years ago. Love the Albatross, what a great aircraft and beautiful styling.

I currently have a Fe2b under construction from Wingnut, a real labour of love.

Thanks for sharing, these really are nice.

Sounds interesting. Hopefully, you can post photos when you eventually receive it.

Got an Fe2b on the way, huh? That is a neat aircraft and one big sucker in 1/32 scale. I'll bet it is going to be gorgeous. From what I saw in Gary's photos, he has the 3 KC Albatros, which are advertised as D-5's, but are actually a mish-mash of the D-3 and D-5. The JJD Albatros are D-3's but Gary doesn't have those in the photos. The Albatros Gary shows are the Voss (in front with the red heart marking), with the red Richthofen Albatros right behind it. The Goering Albatros is bringing up the rear, behind the Rumpler. A very impressive line-up of aircraft. Love to see the Fe2b when you get it. -- Al

Hi Al / Brad,

Will do, it will be some time though before I have her.

In the meantime, here is the reason behind my decision to go for an Fe2b... yes, that is a 1916 propeller for an Fe2b, Beardsmore 160 hp version. Now sits in my hall way (this shot was taken when we were preparing to move everything prior to the downstairs being refurbished and knocked about)

Very neat and unusual. Pretty big prop for a big airplane. -- Al

That's pretty cool to have one in your house. Not sure what your wife might think about that though ^&grin
