My mother past away in September of 2012. I have been given a lot of her things which she kept behind glass. She had many things that I grew up with and I know the history of each. However, she had these soldiers tucked down inside a Carnival Glass bowl. I have never seen them before and I have no idea where they came from. My dad was in the military and traveled all over the world so he may have picked them up while on duty. My grandmother loved Polish items and things that were made in Germany. My dad inherited a lot of items from her when she passed away and he may have gotten them from her. BUT...then I think that both my parents loved to go antique hunting and may have picked them up from an antique sale. My sister disagrees, only because they seemed to be tucked away for awhile. Why would she put them inside of a very expensive bowl? Anyway, I know that is a lot but I wanted to come to some EXPERTS to maybe help me identify these. I DO NOT WISH TO SELL THEM. Parting with anything right now would only make the pain of losing her hurt more. I CAN'T FIND THESE ANYWHERE. I have Googled and Googled. Any help would be appreciated. Even if it is pointing me to a website that would give me information on what they are. Thanks so much!

They are 5 nice looking figures you have there.

I don't know who makes them, but going on the paper under the bases, I'd say made in China, and relatively modern and probably made of pewter.

I can ID some of the figures for you though.

In front are French Chasseur a Cheval, in undress uniform, and a French Hussar, both Napoleonic era.

Back row is a bit harder, as the left one looks like an 1830's British Rifles Officer, going on the enlagement of his head, and the shako badge.

Centre back is a Scots Grey's Napoleonic, and on the right is a Lancer but I can't see the details to decide what country he is from or his era, which is 1800's but could be Napoleonic, or much later such as Crimea.

I hope this helps, but maybe someone else will know the maker.

Regards,

Jhn

That does help. Thank you very much for replying. I believe the bottom felt looks old. They are 5 and a half inches tall. The writing is Korean (or at least that is what I came up with when trying to figure out what language it was). I thought that was strange. I had no idea the names of these guys and that help me a lot. If that is all I get, I am happy so thank you so much. To me, these guys are priceless just because they were my mom's. The mystery of them sitting inside the expensive bowl really baffled my sister and I. We had no idea where they came from and have never seen them before. Thanks again!
