I am unable to get my photo to download. I resized it for fit ,but the location does not seem to be valid. How does one post photos to this forum ....I will keep playing at it..

I bought this set from an auction house and really like these pieces. Can anyone tell me ,who the mfg. might be. There are no identifying marks on the bases. Thanks, Michael

The sculpts look vaguely familar---especially the faces and skinny bodies. I can't place them, but they are probably new toy soldiers as opposed to vintage. They are also stepping off on their right foot which is not common. Although Blenheim, Nostalgia, and Marlborough start off on their right foot, these are not from the Scrobys. Also, I assume that the bottom of the bases are not marked.

Now that all are back from the show, I am bumping this thread, hoping a new gang will see it and help me identify these guys. Thanks ,Michael

Hi All,

My guess is they are Fusilier Miniatures due to the right foot lead off and the paint. However Fusilier's set usually have an NCO and an Officer. So it could be an older set of theirs.

Anyway it a good place to start your search.

Dave

Dave,

I have about a dozen Fusilier sets. All my WW I marching sets do have an officer, NCO, and 4 men marching. I have the British (soft hats), Indians, HLI, Australians, etc. I bought them 10 years ago in Chicago when Fusilier was owned by a guy named Robinson. And unless the early sets were radically different, these are too skinny in the face and body. Also mine are starting off on their left foot (I think---they are in storage). So I would be surprised if they were Fusilier. Paul Herrmann of the toy soldier shop in Wisconsin was the original U.S. dealer, I bet he would know.

Hi Again,

Mike, I am going by a really small photo in a catalogue so its anyones guess but the ones I was looking at did have the same step off only with no bayonets fixed. Anyone think they might be some Camp Randall soldiers?

Dave

Camp Randall is a good guess. I do not own any, but have seen them in Nick Albanese's room in Chicago. I think they are skinny, but I don't remember seeing any marching sets; they seemed to be mini dioramas or in action groupings. Also they would be Americans, which he specializes in, and not British since I don't remember seeing any British sets---although he did have French and Germans.

I don't think they are Tommy Atkins since the sculpts and painting are not right. Toy Army Workshop has a WW I line, but again, these seem too skinny.

Michael: Nothing on the bottom of the bases?

I have Fusilier and camp Randall figures and these don't look anything like them. The legs are too skinny. I would guess they were cast from a mold that someone made themself. I never saw any with this type of sculpting but maybe someone made them for a short time. Leadmen

:( There are no markings at all on the base bottoms. I have done all kinds of web searches trying to get an idea as to mfg. They are well done and it is a shame I could not buy more. I will check with the auction house again to see if they have an idea. Thanks for you help...Michael

Hi Guys,

I think I might know where they are from but it will probably take some more research. When I was in The South Pacific for my honeymoon I found two sets of soldiers from a Company called South Seas Soldiers they are from 58 Kauri Street in Tokoroa, New Zealand. I dont know a lot about them other then they are very skinny and are leading off with the right foot and have no markings on the base. The set I have is six troopers and an NCO. Maybe one of the folks in The south seas has more uptodate information.

Dave

I have two sets of South Seas Soldiers (both of which are in storage). They are smaller size 54mm, but I can't remember if they are that skinny. My sets are of units that were in New Zealand during the 1800s. I bought them from Bill and Pam Brunton at the West Coaster many years ago. They used to carry the line, but I don't know if they still do.

Hi Michael,

I have asked vandilay to check on the South Sea Soldiers which he has kindly accepted. I have also had a though that they could be Dorset or another company called Nicholson (unsure of my spelling here) But I am really leaning towards South Seas Soldiers since the Kiwis I have from WWI look a lot like yours size and paint style. Hopefully we'll find a website and be able to id them soon.

Dave

They are not Nickolson. I have about a dozen sets on display. He makes mainly Indian Army, but has also a very small number of WW II sets which I have seen. He has a web site some where. I don't own or like Dorset figures. They remind me of Britains copies---very basic.

I was looking at wwl figures in magazine and those figures look like Toy Army Workshop. They make a range of figures and nice vehicles. Not sure if that is maker or not but their figures have skinny legs. John

I found their site and they look similar. Problem is they were shutting down as of 3/06. I e-mailed them to see if there was an outlet still selling their stuff, but no answer. I did find and ordered some Fusiliers Miniatures. I never thought I would enjoy the chase for WW1 SO MUCH... Michael

Michael,

What did you buy and did you get a deal on them?

Michigan Toy Soldier ..
Fusiliers Miniatures-US Motorcycle/Sidecar MG-1-$60.00. I have not recieved it yet and I do not know if it is a deal, but it seemed like a fair price. I am trying to find a blend of different mfg. that might mix together for a complete army...Michael

Michael,

That is about the list price for the motorcycle combo. Check out my thread under General Discussion regarding a resource website---it has a link to Fusilier. The six figure sets list a about $90. They also have artillery, stretcher bearers, and vehicles.

Hi Guys,

I will try and post a shot of the South Seas Soldiers I have this week. So we can try and compare the two sets. I have looked at Toy Army's stuff pretty closely and dont think that they are the ones but its close. Anyway once I get the battery in my camera recharged I will snap a picture and put it up.

Dave
