I recenlty picked up a Brown Bess musket and it is marked to the 1st Mancester and Salford Voluntary Infantry regiment...They started in England in 1797 raised for defence in Englad until they were disbanded in 1803...The musket id 100% original and clearly marked to this unit.....if you have any information regarding them or there uniforms please let me know.

Hello Wellington,

Give this website a look:

www.regiments.org

Take a look here it is very detailed and may have what you are looking for. I suspect they were part of the Royal Lancashire Militia (The Duke of Lancaster's Own) But I am not sure there were a lot of units formed and disbanded for the early troubles with France so I'd start my search there. I hope this is helpful.

All the best

Dave

I googled that unit and came up with a home of a colonel Ackers of the Manchester and Salford Volunteers. His home was in Salford. My paternal grandmother came from Oldham a suburb of Manchester. Oh the shame of it for an Irisher:rolleyes:
