Not a bad day for Christmas books at all as I recieved 7 new books on various topics of WWII, the first I want to read is called..."we die alone" I have never had a chance to read it though I have heard many times how good of a book it is, also on my read list is.."Christmas 1945"...basically how things were here in the States during that exact time so many years ago in different locations throughout the U.S. just flipping through it was very interesting...Sammy

Thanks for the thread, Sammy :smile2:
I started collecting the First Legion Renaissance line a little while ago and have the Kronprinz 30 Years War figures on order, so I was very happy to receive two Osprey Men-at-Arms books that fit the period.
Cheers!

Got 3 books from my daughter. One on P-40's, one a AVG memoir, and one an atlas on military history which is especially helpful on post Vietnam conflicts. -- Al

Underdogs, the making of the Modern Marine Corps by Aaron B. O' Connell. Tommy

I got, Armored Attack 1944, by Steven Zaloga. There is also Armored Attack 1945. I highly recommend this books with literally 100's of photos of American tanks and tank destroyers. There are also quite a lot of pics of German AFVs (mostly destroyed & captured). Does anyone know of any good pictorial books that have a lot pics of German AFVs and soldiers?

For good photo coverage of German forces in France July-Sept 1944 I recommend After the Battle' s "Die Ruckzug" (The Retreat)- lots and lots of pics of German troops, AFVs and other kit. Other titles in the After the Battle series (check out their website) offer good coveage of German troops in various theatres.

If your interest is Eastern Front, particularly Stalingrad, I strongly recommend "Angriff" published by Leaping Horseman Books in Australia. It's full of photos, bothe from war photographers and private sources, covering German forces attacking Stalingrad August -November 1942. The photos are excellent, the captions detailed, the level of research impressive.

Gray Cap, thanks for the book suggestions. I will try and look these up. Can you give me the authors of these books, which may make my search easier.

Received from my lovely wife "The Civil War in Color" by John C. Guntzelman. It included a ready-to-frame fine art print. The book is 256 pages, published in 2012 by Sterling Publishing, NY. The Forward is written by Bob Zeller, President of the Center for Civil War Photography. It was beautifully done, and a great addition to any Civil War library.
