This is my first post to this forum. I started collecting Toy Soldiers about two years ago, and recently discovered K&C. I'm hooked. Hide the checkbook, hooked. I've been trying to focus on Bastone ... but now there's the winter soldiers ... and I kind of like the Iwo Jima stuff .... I'm in big trouble. Anyway, here are some really newbie questions I would love to get answers to:

1. What are the figures made out of? Is it pewter?
2. What are the vehicles made out of?
3. Is there a good website that lists the retired K&C sets? Something with pictures would be great.
4. Have they ever done a pirate line? Who do I have to bribe?
5. Are there other companies I may not be familiar with who work in the same scale?

Thanks. I've been enjoying reading through the threads on this forum.

Welcome AJones;

1. Pewter, I think?
2. Polystone, some sort of composite resin?
3. www.toysoldiersusa.com
4. Don't know, sorry
5. New Model Army, Patriot, Honour Bound, H.B.makes almost as good as K&C figures, better tanks.:)

Welcome to the forum AJ,hope you enjoy. As Fred says there is much debate about who makes better tanks etc.King and Country's figures are still easily the best(IMHO).HB tanks are very good and New model army started really well too. There is another company called Collectors showcase that show promise but i think there may be confusion as to whether they are the same size as K&C?.

All these companies are good but in my little universe K&C rule!(cue the arguments!!)

Rob

Welcome aboard. I hope this answers your questions satisfactorily.

1. What are the figures made out of? Is it pewter?
It is not pewter. It is a composite white metal.
2. What are the vehicles made out of?
Since 1998, the vehicles have been made of polystone, a heavy pressed porceline with marble dust in it. Before that they were made of mohagony or resin with metal detailing, or of metal.
3. Is there a good website that lists the retired K&C sets? Something with pictures would be great. Bill Sager's website: http://www.toysoldiersusa.com/
4. Have they ever done a pirate line? Who do I have to bribe?
Andy did do the prototypes of a pirate line, complete with a fully rigged wood pirate ship based on Sir Francis Drake's flagship the Hind, but it was never put into production.
5. Are there other companies I may not be familiar with who work in the same scale? Honour Bound makes excellent 1:30 scale figures and vehicles. New Model Army also makes nice 1:30 scale figures and vehicles, as does Patriot.

Welcome to the forum AJones :)

Here are some helpful links (maybe some of the other members could use this also). They are in two categories and not in any particular order after that so if your favorite maker or dealer is not listed the way you would like it, so what, get over it and move on. And I may have not included everyone's favorite, well shame on me :p But here it is any way:;)

AJ,
Welcome to the forum. You picked a great area to start in, the Battle of the Bulge offerings from K & C are first rate, as are the winter items from Honour Bound and New Model Army, they all go well together. There are some great scenic pieces for that campaign as well from Build a Rama and JG Miniatures.

One other company doing excellent figures in 1/30th scale is John Jenkins Designs, specializing in the French and Indian War at the moment.........

George

Yea - But, AJ

You have to get your dealer to find your items and take care you - instead of spending all his time at home with his swimsuit model !

WOOF, WOOF :D

Not true buddy, I do a show just about every other weekend; hey Ron, now maybe other dealers at the shows understand why I am always in a rush to get home.........:D ..................
