I’m new here. 58 and collector of stuff – cameras – Dragon and Corgi Armor – masks - Ducati - tanks...

I acquired my first set of K&C figures several weeks ago (BBG004 GI Prisoners) – awesome. I now have 6 sets from the BBG – BBA – WS series plus Sepp. Today I received my first vehicle. It is the WS087 “Halt!” set. I wanted to see if the tanks and scooters were going to be something I’d be interested in – correctness – scale – detail – polystone?

The “Halt!’ set is absolutely fantastic, but it is metal so I still don’t know what a polystone tank, truck or bike looks like other than from photographs.

I like the following pieces and would be thankful if someone would recommend one as a first purchase so I can get the feel so to speak – US General Inspection Sherman – Grille S.P. Gun Set - Hetzer

Could you tell me if some of the motorcycles are polystone. If so, which ones.

Thanks.

Welcome

I havent bought any of the Motorcycles yet - so I will let other forum members give you the ends and outs on them.

But, I do want to bring to your attention the Winter WS figures - they go great with the BBG's - my personal favorite is the Hummel (WS79) it is one of the great sets of the Winter Germans IMO. A great deal too. Check it out.

The polystone is lighter than metal - I really dont see that big of difference - all of K&C stuff is great.

Cheers, Ron

Welcome to the forum lenswerks,

The polystone is a resin based mix, which feels pretty hefty. Get yourself one. You'll be hooked then. I came about K&C as a toy soldier only collector but was curious about the tanks, bought one, and then another, and another etc.

I haven't got the 2 German vehicles, but I have the Sherman and it is very nice - lot of detail. The tank crew are IMO some of the best done, particularly the two standing tankers who are about to get it in the neck, and the tanker half figure looking on, with his head rested on his arms. The look on his face speaks volumes. I appreciate that this piece is a little more pricey, but I don't think you'll be dissappointed.

Welcome to the Forum. Unfortunately, I'm not home right now so I can't give you info about the motorcycles other than that they are very well done.

I would recommend the Sherman as it's the most up to date from a sculpting point of view. Very good tracks and detail, plus a five figure set. Of the other two that you mentioned, I like them both but would lean toward the Hetzer.

I am sorry - I really didnt answer your question on which to buy from your list.

I agree with Brad - Sherman has a lot of detail and is a special limited edition set - but, for the smaller investment I would go for the Hetzer - great figures with sign post and a cool looking Tank.

But, all three are great.

You can see all these on the TREEFROG WEBPAGE and it is a very easy place to order from as well.

:) Hay Lenswerks, welcome to the forum :) Lots of information and even some inside information from makers. Great place to discuss this hobby of ours.

I have the three you asked about. I am following suit and recommending the Sherman first. Yeah it costs a few dollars more than the others, but you also get the four standing figures. The work is extremely well done and the tank itself is polyresin. If you have any Forces of Valor (Mostly metal) or 21st Century (Mostly plastic and some metal), the difference between the metal/plastic and polyresin is dramatic. I don't personally have a preference. I like all three styles. Each has its advantage and each has its drawback.

As far as the other choices you have given yourself, I like the Grille. It's a little off balance, more of the weight is in the rear of the tank and it can tend to tip backwards, but it is well done. The Hetze is a nice little tank but I like the others more.

Regardless, be patient and get them all when you can. Welcome to the insane - well if you read enough of the posts you'll know what I mean:p

Thanks everyone for the great feedback and warm welcome.

Ron, I have the German Winter MG42 Set, very nice it is and I’ll pick up 1 or 2 WS items when I get the tank.

Simon, Brad, The Sherman with crew + the 2 figures is neat. The tank looks great in the photo.

Michael, Yes, I’ve been reading the posts back 12 months and already know you’re all nuts just like me. Be patient - You’re not serious are you?

I’ll get the Sherman.

Donnie

Welcome aboard Donnie. The strictly limited "General Inspection" Sherman is a good choice for an armored vehicle, but check out the new Kubelwagon and Opel Blitz truck. The polystone wheeled vehicles are superb.

Thanks Louis. I have been looking at both of these. Most recently the Opal in the Spring 07 Collector. Detailed interior!

Throwing in my 2 cents--

Have you considered the Churchill?? DDAY 52 I think?? I just got it a couple weeks ago- I believe it is the best "halfsies" crew out there- if you look hard enough, you can read "Scots Guards" on the tab on their sleeves!!

I have also heard it is getting hard to find. I might first take the Churchill and the Humel and then snatch up the Sherman LE- it isn't as hard to find as it may sound.

FYI

The word on the streets of Hong Kong is the Churchill is not long for this world - neither is the Summer Panzer.

Agreed- that was what I have been told as well, which was why I was recommending it. You can still find it out there at retail. I really like that tank.

Yeah, I didn't come out and say that though as I don't know if I was misinformed and didn't want to lead anyone else down the wrong path.

It was really splendid!! Unfortuantely, I never got it  I had the DD27 Sherman at one time but had to let it go   double GRRRRR

That one is up there with WS15- had a chance to get it back in 2000 and passed to get the Landing Craft- which was fine. There was just something about that Tiger that still blows me away today.

Yeah, the DD45 came out when I had moved on to another hobby and I missed the boat. When I saw the SL Sherman come out, that became top TOP priority!! (And I have it now)

Good advice on the other thread- the vehicles go before the grunts. That's a bit of advice I could have used a few years back.

Welcome - have a look in the diorama sections of the forum and in the photo album from the home page - will give you a good flavour of the vehicles.

Hey folks-
I’ve received my vehicles along with some of the JG Miniatures BB bases – nice stuff – and took this unplanned photograph. This 30” x 12” diorama is awesome. It is in a cabinet, but needs to be where you can walk around it - so I will have to work on that. I’m very pleased with the vehicles. I also got the Sherman but have not taken it out of the box yet.

Thanks!

Great stuff!!

Where is the Ground guide for that Hetzer??? It looks like there may be one less trooper to defend the Fatherland.
