I noticed these 2 new Durbar elephants (left and center) in this photo from the London show and no one has mentioned them so far?

Hi Randy,

Those elephants along with some of standing figures are from the old gloss range. In reference to Pats`thread about mixing gloss and matte together, these don`t seem to look to bad together.

Im afraid I didn't here any news about the Dubar range the only new sets shown on friday night were from the new sudan range & a couple of new zulu pieces id post my photos but the ones that have already been posted are much better. I really should invest in a new camera!

I saw the price stickers and figured they were new. They do all blend well together as you say.

Gentle Friends,

The two elephants following the newer Jaipur elephant are from Britains previous glossy line of Delhi Durbar figures. They are:

Set #40184 - Maharajah of Bikanir's State Elephant (Pink Draping on Elephant.)

Set #40186 - State Elephant of the Nizam of Hyderabad (Yellow Draping on Elephant.)

If you look closely, you can see the Jaipur Elephant (matte finish) is somewhat larger than the earlier elephants. It will be interesting to see if future elephants in the matte range will continue to be larger than Britains earlier glossy Durbar elephants.

The reaction of collectors to mixing the glossy elephants with the matte elephant is mixed. Personally, I still find it difficult to blend the two sets of figures, not only because of the differing finish, but because there is a difference in scale as well. However, the most important thing is that the collector be happy with his arrangement of the figures. If you enjoy them blended with one another, then blend them. If, like myself, you think they are too different to work well together, then develop separate displays. But,...please enjoy the figures. Both the glossy line and the matte range have their distinct merits and they are beautiful!

By the way, if anyone is interested, I would be happy to identify the standing figures in the display.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Actually, Pat, I personally would be more interested in confirming the background. As the palms ae JG, I trust the buildings are as well?

Yes, Andanna,
the buildings are by JG
I was very surprised to see that his facades fit that well with the figures.
Usually his older items were on the rather small size of the 54mm scale.
But these seem to be just right, not only for the older glossy elephants but for the new, taller Jaipur Elephant as well.
Konrad
