Received the six new figures and they are the same scale as the last release. I am surprised that K&C used this larger size. While they do match up with the French Imperial Grenadier Guards (which can be justified by the Guards requirements for height and robustness) they are considerably larger than the British Waterloo figures. They are also taller and "chunkier" than the Napoleon in Egypt series.
It was already discussed that they were larger in scale than earlier Napoleonic releases. Wouldn't the larger sizes use more materials and consequently cost more when pricing we know is an issue in our hobby?
The sculpting and painting is fine. I wonder if this will now be the norm for this period?
Maybe the sculptor is of French descent and envisioned a "super race" of French soldiers! They certainly cannot be mixed with Britains which could be a strategy in itself.
Let's see what other collectors think.

I have heard from someone who talked to Andy that it is simply a fluke- not intentional, just one of those odd things that happen from time to time. Obviously it is not ideal, and we can hope it doesn't happen again, but it was not intentional, so let's not point fingers.... (not accusing anyone- your post was fine)

Lets hope it is an anomaly and we can say that they came from the same village in France that "Andre the Giant's" ancestors lived.

I am still on the fence. In theory, they would work great with Britain's new releases, and maybe a few FL and with Frontline in the background, to form a French Line Infantry company, but I just don't know if that would be stretching it. We will have to see. By the way- no one has said this yet- but just think- there's way more toy soldier to love^&grin!
Maybe they are related to Obelix:rolleyes2:.

Next to an FL or WB figure they would look to be about 7 feet tall and 300 pounds..........I doubt there were many line infantry with these proportions. Unless there were French NFL football linesmen.
Seriously though, I hope there will be more releases in better scale and these can just be mixed in the background. They are painted and sculpted nicely as I have mentioned so they will stay in my collection.

They're not quite right for me, but I had wondered whether their more 'weathered' look might suit them more to the Egyption series? Certainly some of the other figures out seem to be showing the French there in a more unkempt manner.

Its all about perception I suppose - the Imperial Guard and the French Infantry were the first pieces I purchased. I then purchased the RHA set and thought they looked unusually small and they subsequently sat rather oddly in the cabinet.

I agree with your observation. Owing to their weathered look and figure size (which is much closer to the NE range than the earlier Waterloo Naps) I have chosen to display them together with the marching infantry in the foreground ....

I have not bought these new French Line Infantry figures yet - I hope they will look good with the NE figures - if anyone has pictures of them together - please share ! :)

Unfortunately the new French line infantry have very different uniforms from the Egyptian campaign. They are also chunkier and taller than the NE series.
I am curious to see how future releases will compare in size. Right now I see them as a "stand alone" series.

The French Army in the Spanish Campaign, the German Campaign, the French Campaign and the Waterloo Campaign were in fact "weathered" and did not look at all like they just came off a parade ground, these new figures are very realistic if you want to depect them in any of the battles from those campaigns.

Very true but we need K&C or TCS to provide some Spanish, Prussian and Russian troops from post 1812.
It looks like K&C will stick with Waterloo and the Egyptian camaigns.
I really liked their Napoleonic Russians but I guess they didn't sell well enough to movitate Andy to expand that line.

Waterloo seems to be the focus, maybe some Prussians as a result at some point?

I did well with the Russians and they fetch good prices in the secondary market for those who use Ebay from time to time because collecting is a process afterall...............

I was thrilled with the K&C Russians and purchased over 100 pieces. I really thought that K&C would add to this series ((cavalry, Cossacks, grenadiers, Jaegers and personalities) and then add allies for a true Borodino series. On one of his visits to NY Andy stressed that Waterloo sells the best.
I was pleasantly surprised that he added the Egyptian campaign.
Perhaps he just doesn't want to go head to head with FL on Napoleonics hence the NE series and not the Russian campaign.
I also recall that Andy was very reluctant to produce Prussians.
I believe that K&C will expand the NE series with action poses and this can perhaps lead into the Italian campaigns which few if any current makers cover.

Andy mentioned the Prussians to me as well and said the same thing.

I look forward to more releases in the NE series going forward as well.............

Does anyone have any pics they can post to show the size differences?

Thanks

Gazza

I've never met Andy but you guys seem to like him and that's good enough for me, but can you just go up to him and say 'Hey Andy, how about some Prussians' and he then discusses his company's plans for the coming releases?

I do remember an earlier post; Andy said, he never will do prussians. - That's (not only) is the reason for my interest in other companies doing (other) Napoleonics than 42. or 92. Regiment ...

Jack,
You should have the chance, late May/early June to try it and see{sm4}. Possible answers might be :
a) a definite no.
b) thinking about it.
or c) in the schedule.

I recall Andy, on his trip in mid 2010, mentioned to Breslau that LAH Kreigsmarine band figures would be coming. He forgot to mention it would be 18 months. Breslau has also expressed an interest in Prussians as have I.

Like many others (collectors and competitors) I would love to see Andy's "to do" list. However if we knew all future releases it would take the fun out of the monthly Despatches.

Regards
Brett
