(Sorry all I guess I posted in the wrong area....)

Hi all,

Just started in this very interesting looking hobby :smile2:

Just got back from San Antonio on a mini vacation and went to Kings X after looking them up on the internet. Very nice store and I picked up 3 pieces, could have picked 100 if I had the money ^&grin

I then ordered 2 more pieces online that night as the 1 of the 2 pieces I went to Kings X to get was not in stock. Treefrog had it in stock so I ordered it as well as 1 more piece just for good measure.

My 1st question is;

I now have purchased 5 pieces and only 2 of them are related as far as time / historical era. 2 x from the Alamo (Hey I am from Texas!), 1 x WWI, 1 x WWII and 1 Crusades era. Is it normal for most collectors to concentrate on one era? It seems that would be a much more efficient way to collect but I am interested in so many different historical eras it seems impossible {eek3}

So what is the "norm" for most collectors?

My 2nd question is;

Any good website, paper magazines or other forums that anybody can suggest?

Thanks in advance for your help :smile2:

I collect areas of personal interest. With plastic though, this is most areas. Plastic is cheap enough to generally allow this.

Metal wise, I have 9 figs from K & Cs Crusades line and I'll probably leave it at that. My other big interest is the British army and I'm focusing on Napoleonics from K & C, 1740-80 with Jenkins (so Culloden and American Frontier) and 1870-80 which is featuring Conte's Zulu's and soon to be released NW frontier. I had meant to just get a few from each time period but it's grown!

What is the "norm"? Well, if you are looking for "normal" get another hobby :)

Semi-seriously, welcome to the best toy soldier forum around. I hope you will enjoy our little gang of lunatics.

You will see all kinds of approaches and preferences in this forum. My advice - do what you like - it's a hobby! In this economy you can't afford EVERYTHING, so get what pleases you. Personally, I am big into WW2 and specialize in the Americans. I buy metals, plastics, and models in various sizes. Other peoplewould not touch WW2 and prefer Napoleonics or ancients. Do what you like and buy what you enjoy. If you happen to like "Sherrif of Nottingham" and also have an interest in the Vietnam War, then go ahead and collect both.

Thanks all, still new buy learning very fast that there is just way too much to buy :) Trying to narrow it down still to what I like the most to concentrate on that.
