I got a feeling it's gonna be Clive.......well see.

Mike

I think you are right. John told me last year that he was interested in doing 18th C India and Clive someday. You know I'll want to jump on board for that as will Konrad (kogu) I am sure. Battle of Plassey 1757 ELEPHANTS!!!!!

Seven Years' War: Battle of Plassey

June 23, 1757 - 4,400 soldiers of the British East India Company defeat 50,000 men under Nawab Siraj Ud Daulah of Bengal at the Battle of Plassey. Fought during the Seven Years' War, the Nawab was assisted by the French and had some French troops with his army. Conflict with the Nawab began in 1756, when his troops captured Fort William and Calcutta, and was welcomed by the Company which sought to expand their power in India

To recapture Calcutta, the Company sent Colonel Robert Clive (left) and Admiral Charles Watson north from Madras. After a brief campaign they reoccupied the city on January 2, 1757. Seeking an advantage, Clive was able to talk Mir Jafar, Siraj Ud Daulah's military commander, into switching sides during the next battle in exchange for the nawabship. On June 23 the two armies met near Palashi. The Nawab opened the battle with an ineffective cannonade which ceased around noon when heavy rains fell on the battlefield. The Company troops covered their cannon and muskets, while the Nawab's and French did not. When the storm cleared, the Clive ordered an attack. With their muskets useless due to wet powder, and with Mir Jafar's divisions unwilling to fight, the Nawab's remaining troops were forced to retreat. Clive's army suffered a mere 22 killed and 50 wounded as opposed to over 500 for the Nawab. The victory at Plassey drove the French from Bengal and opened the door for the ultimate British conquest of India.

1935 film

Colonial British India was very popular in 1930s films such as Clive of India (18th C) and for the 19th C: Gunga Din, Wee Willie Winkie and Lives of a Bengal Lancer.

Yes, Randy,
that would be very tempting indeed. Wonder if we we find out anytime soon?

Yes I got a email from Toy Soldiers Club and it is indeed the Siege of Khartoum.Club set # 2 is Chief Scarouyady.Set # 1 is due out in January and # 2 sometime in the spring.I love the late 19th cen.colonial era but I'm limiting myself to the FIW,specifically to BOS and getting my historical kits painted so I doubt if I'll be collecting Khartoum at this point and time.

Khartoum is an interesting choice. Somerset has a rather extensive series on Gordon. It is well done but expensive and in gloss. I will be interested in seeing the relief column done in matte, especially the Camel Corps. -- lancer

I got your PM....thanks for the breaking news Aurele...

it takes a miner to dig deep enough...hahahaha:D

Well......I gotta admit.....John was very secretive about this...I had no clue.

He certainly caught me off guard.

I must have read ten links on General Gordon and Khartoum since I logged in.

It's an interesting conflict....

I'm anxious to see this new series...it has it's moments for sure....

his reluctance to leave his post and return.....The government ordered him to return, but Gordon refused, saying he was honour-bound to defend the city.

the demise of Gordon.... his head was cut off, stuck on a pike, and brought to the Mahdi as a trophy.

the final outcome...slaughtered to the last man within a few hours, as were 4,000 of the town's inhabitants, while many others were carried into slavery.

I'll just have to see the figures and go from there....

well see....

I do love the new collectors issue...... Chief Scarouyady...he looks like a real warrior.
