Good morning everyone and welcome to the new announcements for January 2009. Before we begin we hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
Not a big release for January, but I think a very good one, hope you enjoy.

THE RAID ON ST. FRANCIS
In 1756 Rogers chose to set up his Rangers’ headquarters on a small island in the Hudson River. This was to become known as Rogers’ Island, and was next to the British Fort Edward. It was from here that the Rangers prepared for their various scouts and raids.
Fort Edward was one of the most important of the northern British posts, located along the strategic Hudson river, and about 40 miles north of Albany. It was also less than a days march away from Fort William Henry.
Along with a Blockhouse, Hospital, Kitchens, there was a Barracks complex. This complex was made up of many small huts. These small huts were also to be found at other forts and Crown Point.

The Rangers were billeted in specially constructed huts. It was unique to the Rangers who preferred to live in even half-faced camps of brush rather than tents like the rest of the army.
A Royal Artillery Captain painted a watercolor in 1759 at Crown Point, showing Ranger Huts aligned in rows, with their doors fronting onto company streets.
3+ Ranger Huts in a line together with a Log Cabin as the Officer quarters, create a small Barracks complex, which can be placed within or outside the stockade.
THE BATTLE ON THE MONONGAHELA 1755
Captain Robert Stewart, commanded a company of approximately 30 mounted Virginia Light horsemen. Most were at the vanguard of the British column. Captain Stewart was one of only five members of the unit who survived the battle.

THE JACOBITE REBELLION 1745
The first flag for this collection represents the standard from Charles Stewart of Ardshael’s Appin Regiment. A yellow saltire on a blue field.
The regiment joined the Jacobite army in August 1745, and its first engagement was at the Battle of Prestonpans on 21st September 1745.
Almost one year later at The Battle of Culloden, Ardsheal and his regiment of 150 men, described as “followers of Appin”, stood on the right of the Jacobite front line with only Lochiel’s Camerons on their right.
This last Highland charge saw the Camerons break the British 4th Regiment of foot.
Ardshael’s men who initially had charged straight forward, seeing the collapse of Barrell’s 4th Foot, veared right to follow the Camerons in an attempt to exploit the breakthrough.
As a result the British regiment , Monro’s 37th Foot who were originally directly to the front of the “followers of Appin” were able to fire several volleys into the flank of Ardshael’s men, causing many casualties on the charging highlanders , whom narrowly avoided losing their colours.
