With the announcement that K&C will do a WWI series starting in 1914 and with the appearance of WWI items from ONTC and Britains, I would like to recommend an excellent film as a companion to the figures suggesting diorama possibilites and perhaps some subjects for Andy at K&C. The film appeared in 2005 and is called Joyeux Noel (Merry Chrsitmas). It is about the Christmas Truce of 1914. The director went to great lengths to accurately recreate the event including uniforms, sites. etc. We are shown the stories of French, German and British (Highland Division) units. The film is actually in all 3 languages. I know that a lot of the members are interested in winter subjects (e.g. the Bulge) so here is another chance to explore this subject since both the WWI and WWII events happened over the holidays. The film is available on DVD. You can see reviews on Amazon.

This is my first post on the forum. I collect WWII figures especially from the North African campaign and the Battle of the Bulge but also examples from earlier wars--mostly K&C, some Britains, Patriot, New Model Army, and most recently Honour Bound. I also enjoy doing dioramas at the 1/72 scale.

Welcome to the forum Polar Bear. Come on in and enjoy yourself among kindered spirits. Just like in any familiy it can get a little rough from time to time but usually nobody ends up bleeding.

Hi Randy, Welcome to the forum:) I too heard of that particular film and I would love to see it. North Africa seems to be gaining in popularity and maybe that will lead to more releases (get'em JohnGamble). WWI sounds like it too will be exciting. Have fun, I think many of us do:cool:

Hi Randy,

Welcome home! I say "Welcome home," because this forum tends to become a second home for those of us that are excited about collecting toy soldiers. We exchange interesting information, develop wonderful friendships, and learn from each other. And,...there is always a welcome mat for new members which is experienced when you begin posting to the forum.

My advice to you is to post often, exhibit civility in your posts, and, most of all, have fun!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Wecome Randy,

Welcome Polar Bear to the forum. My first love is Napoleonic but after that the Africa Korp and 8th Army takes most of my money. I have to say the new releases in K&C North Afirca look great. I love the new motorcycle.

Welcome,

Thank you all for your warm welcome. I look forward to sharing ideas and thoughts with you on the forum. Besides WWII I do have selected examples from K&C American Revolution, Napoleoncs, Crusades, Alamo and Britains Civil War, American Revolution, and Nelson. I bought these to give some sense of history and color variety to my collection. I am an art historian (semi-retired) by profession so tend to pick items for my collection on visual impact--I must say the sculpting and painting on K&C is first rate--I am looking forward to the WWI series. I agree with a previous post that sometimes the color in Britain's figures is washed out--most of my Britains are from the First Gear era. I began collecting soldiers in the 50s as a boy with all those wonderful Britain's Red Boxed sets. I got into the hobby then since my dad was a WWII vet and I was inspired by the Coronation of Elizabeth and all those red coated soldiers. I only started collecting again 2 yrs ago but am enjoying the new matte finish figures.

I seen the movie, pretty good. The only part that was not plausable was that woman being in the trenches, but as you stated great for looking at the uniforms.
