I was looking at this forlorn knight in my collection, sipping wine, contemplating this piece.

It is a converted Langley Models tournament knight on an historex/Airfix horse but I lost the plot sometime back given that the conversion looked like a toy figure.

More recently,, I bought a job lot of EMI/MMA medieval knights on Ebay and surprisingly, the castings were similar in quality to the Langley castings.

So I took another look at this piece and decided that it could be done up to a model figure standard.

So here's the pics of it on my dining table before further refurbishment.

The morning after.

I snipped about a cm off the lower hem of the horse barding which looked more practical. I also repositioned the knight further forward on the horse. This seems to be the correct way to ride in those days, given the size of the horses. I will build up the back and bulk out the horse.

After another round of critique, I decided to substitute a larger horse for the knight. This is an uncommon metal horse made from body halves similar to the Historex horses.

I glued copper sheets to represent the horse barding. I also reduced slightly the size of the knight and checked the balance of the mounted knight.

I think this looks so much better.

I dribbled liquid epoxy glue into the underside between the horse and the copper sheets. When set, this should provide a strong bond and prevent the copper sheet from cracking and popping out from the horse. I devised this technique from an earlier kettledrummer project where I had to glue copper sheets to a plastic kettledrum.

I gave the horse a light grey undercoat to highlight areas for further attention.
