New Manufacturer

We have great pleasure in announcing a new name on the Toy Soldier Scene..........

THE MODEL ARMOURY

Established by collectors for collectors.

With the demise of many of the cottage industry producers we felt there was sufficient unsatisfied demand to investigate what could be done.
Having teamed up with talented, experienced sculptors our intention is to resurrect, re-energise and perhaps enhance that traditional cottage industry style.
Proudly sculpted, produced and painted in the UK we shall initially be focussing on Glossy 1/32 scale products primarily WW1.

However, always open to suggestions, we are more than willing to hear from collectors as to their particular preferences.
If it's achievable both from a production and economic viewpoint we can add to our already burgeoning list of potential subjects.
We have a web listing at www.themodelarmoury.co.uk and can be contacted on info@themodelarmoury.co.uk

Grey Goose Collectables will act as sole distributor for now and we have linked to their website whilst we build out our own.
The first offerings are posted now, with additions coming over the next week to coincide with prototypes being available for viewing at the forthcoming Chicago show.

The First product off the bench is the 4.7 ins gun and crew/s
The Gun is all metal and has opening breach. 2 four man crews accompany each set, one for the Western Front and one for a tropical setting with their Wolseley Helmet.
Priced at £165 ($225) These are ready for despatch following the Chicago show.

Re: New Manufacturer

Ooohh, nice. Like the painting style for these gloss figures, with a little shading to accentuate features. Ah well, retirement is probably over rated anyway.....
Just a bit torn between the camo and the khaki (and no, I can't afford to be getting two sets of everything before you ask!)
Look forward to seeing what gets added to this range.
Cheers
Simon

Thanks for your confidence in me. Your ongoing support is a moral crutch for me to lean against.
I hear Clive is going to do a Nile gun boat in six paint schemes next, inculding a limited edition apple green one. Best of luck {sm4}

Clive,

its great to see a new maker on the scene, especially someone who is making figures in the same vain as Toy Army Workshop :)

I'm really glad that WW1 Artillery is the first out of the production line, the gun and figures look very accurate, and I love the painting style, a detailed gloss finish, and all of the varieties of uniforms for the different campaigns.

Well Done !!!!!!

The only drawback I can see is the choice of poses and types of figures used in the set. All of the sets shown only have 3 gunners loading the gun, and an officer.

On a gun detachment for this sort of gun there would be about 6 to 10 gunners manning the gun, with a sergeant in charge.
There would only be one officer per section of gun on the gun line, not one on each gun!
This is a common problem with makers of artillery sets, and only recently, using K&C as an example with their Aussie WW2 25 Pounder, that a full crew without officer been offered.
By the way, TAW set BS107 which was the 4.7" field gun has 6 x gunners, with no officer!

My suggestion for future artillery sets will be to have at least 4 gunners serving the gun, and an add on set of another 2 or 4 gunner ( poses such as aiming, moving the gun, opening the breech or gun sergeant) so that collectors can have an accurate gun crew. The officer can also be a separate figure, along with general soldiers carrying ammo and such.

Anyway, if this is a start of a new company, and this is the standard, you are all on a winner !!!!

I hope to be able to see them in person when next I'm in London for the Toy Soldier Show, pity they weren't out in June :) :)

Regards,

John

Hi John,
Thank you for your support and comments. (although I'd prefer not to compare to any one of the traditional manufacturers):smile2:, hopefully we can add value to what has been produced by many companies previously and even bring some new items to the table.
You raise an interesting point re the gun crews. We talked long and hard as to whether we should do a full crew and it really comes down to economics.
As the first piece off the blocks I wanted to make it as accessible as possible for people's wallets and as I'm sure you know better than I, having a full crew requiring the necessary masters and production, would be quite an investment up front with the knock on increase in price for the customer.
However, it is our intention to produce additional artillery pieces with different crews hence we can build up the add on sets for those who wish to have an authentic representation over what will hopefully be a short time frame.

More to come later this week.

Best regards
Clive
