Hi All, I was looking for an introduction section but I must have looked over it if there is one. Any way my Name is Kyle & I live in Alcoa, Tn

I don't honestly know much about toy soldiers. My father in law recently passed away & has a large collection of Soldiers & toy soldier books. He had some that look generic & the others are elastolin , Linoil & I think I might have seen a Barclay. I really have not picked them all up there is so many.

I am really looking for help we are going to be selling the collection & we were hoping there might be some one in the area that could lead us in the right direction or an appraiser in our area. I hope I have not broken any rules here we just could use a little help. I am not super PC smart & could not figure out how to post pictures but I have a lot I can email or if some one can walk me thru on how to post them. I am going to take a video & see if I can insert it here some how. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to the forum! We get many requests from families of collectors who have passed, so don't feel you're doing anything wrong by asking for help.

If you want to sell any of your father-in-law's collection yourself through the forum, there is a trading section, where you'd get the most visibility. If you have photos and need help ID'ing the figures, the general categories are probably best, too, for visibility.

I think you'll also get good advice about auction houses. There are some well-known auction houses that specialize in toy soldiers, though you may have some good general auctioneers in your area who probably can, too.

As far as posting photos goes, I recommend using a hosting site, like Photobucket, Fotki, etc. You upload images to the hosting site, and then it provides you with links to use in forums. The other choice is to add them as attachments to your posts. I think we have some threads on how to add images in the how-to section. My own preference is to use a hosting site (I use Photobucket) because they're generally free to use, until you reach a certain amount of disk space used, and I find it easier to load my images there, than to add them as attachments, because every forum I belong to has different requirements for file size and image size. But that's just my preference.

Again, welcome to the forum!

Prost!
Brad

Welcome Kyle, the new member intro is in the thread Treefog chat lounge. You should get a lot of help from the forum members in your quest to sell your collection. All the best. Robin.

The video is "private". I'm not sure what that means, but it won't let me play it

Video works fine, suggest you put it on the thread 'collector classifieds- for sale/trade' section as well. Robin.

Large collection.Looks like he collected for a long time.

I have to send my PC off for a few days for repair so might not be able to get on here & check this unless I can manage to from my phone.

Ok I got my PC back . It is going to take me a while to go thru these & figure out what I actually have. I found lots of books in the room with the soldiers. I guess I will have to do lots of reading so I can figure things out.

For top dollar, you'd probably have to sell piece (or set) by piece. If the goal is just to be done with it, I'd give the whole enchilada to an auction house that deals with toy soldiers and be done with it all at once. Depends really what the goal is

Really the goal is just to be done with it. We just have so much to deal with around here in the estate its just a little much for us right now to try & sell one by one.

If you have some mature teenagers in the family turn everything over to them as a project. Set them up
on eBay. Let them keep all the proceeds. They'd learn a lot-----history, research, math, customer service,
and etc.

No Teenagers in the family the Kids are young. Good idea on them learning though there just to young.

Hi Kyle! I'm in the same boat as you on the other side of TN. My father passed about 3 years ago and I'm still going through his stuff. You will have to research the pieces. Everyone here at Treefrog has been great in helping me identify stuff. I have a thread going in this section in which I post when I'm stumped. I feel like I should be giving out gold stars or cookies or something to these guys when they answer me. :)

As stated, your best bet is to sell the stuff individually. I have not seen your video to see exactly what you have yet since I can't view it at work. Complete boxed sets that are mint condition will do best. If you do sell on eBay, it has it's ups and downs. I learned a costly lesson recently to not shipping to boarding schools anymore.

Thanks for the reply everyone here has been really nice so far. I feel like an idiot though because I know absolutely nothing besides the little bit I have read in the books he has . I know we would get more individually its just a lot to go thru as you know. Sorry for your loss to.

Hi All, I have had a couple people ask about selling pieces which I am not against at all even though I would like to sell it all. If you see something you like let me know & we can talk about it keep in mind you will have to help me if your looking for something particular since I only know what I have learned here & what I have read in the books I found of his.

I did have one person here ask me about the whole collection but at this point I would not have a clue on the price. I know I cant get top dollar selling it as a whole but not going to give it away either. I just want to be fare & am staying away from Ebay if I can. I have a 100 % rating with Ebay ( Kyle9045) but am tired of the fees that keep going up. Also since I am new here people can look at my website just to get a little more info about me. ( I have not changed the address on my website since moving but the phone number is still correct) www.madmonkeycycles.com

I am going to post a couple more videos of Forces of Valor stuff I found in the closet still in boxes & also some old Tank models still in the boxes & old fort models . We just keep finding stuff & I figure people here might be interested.
