Here is a little project I did, I took a 47th Grenadier from the Quebec series, and turned him into a 44th from the Monongahela series, this is a pose that is missing from this series, so I made my own. First I unassembled his gun from the body, used an exacto knife to carve the white lacing off his waistcoat (pockets, bottom, vertical seam next to buttons), I couldn't paint over it, it sticks out too much, and the BOM Brits don't have any lacing on their waistcoats, they're just a simple tan. Then I took the smallest brush imaginable to man to color match and apply the paint. Sorry the photos aren't all that great, I tried to show the details I painted.

NICE JOB Blake! That's the way to do it. I'm about to do the same with some of the 47th center company (hatmen) figures. Are the hands and musket difficult to loosen and remove?

Thanks guys!
dragoon: I thought about doing some hatmen, but I'll wait to see what John continues to come out with, I think he said he'd have a total of twelve new hatmen, that's why I chose to do a grenadier; it's nice to have some variety. Post some pictures if you do, I'd like to see; and yes, the wrists have holes, and the hands have plugs on the ends, it just took a little pressure, twisting, and bending, all the above very carefully!!! That should loosen up the glue, if not, you may have to use an exacto knife to help loosen up the glue. The metal isn't too hard to shave off, in terms of the white lacing on the waistcoats, just be careful, I stuck it into my finger, blood ran down to wrist in about 1.2 seconds ;)
Ken: I've done conversions with only plastics in the past, some conte figures, and barzso figures, if you look on Ron Barzso's website gallery, you'll see the converted British officer that I did, I sent him the photo to put in his gallery. This was my very first attempt at metal, especially painted metal :D I was really pleased with the result though, so I may probably do more in the future, now that I'm over my fear of "destroying" a JJD figure :p

Hi Blake, That is a fantastic conversion/paint job you have done on the 47th Grenadier, and I certainly understand why one would want to create extra Monongahela grenadiers!
For personal reasons I just hope you are not starting a trend, as I have just started collecting the Québec series, and find the QB-06 and QB-07 sets hard enough to come by as it is, without you reducing the numbers:p

Nice job. I thought about repainting but that's as far as it went!:p In the end, I couldn't find my super-vision or guts. Impressive. -- Al

catul: no need to worry, I only collect the monongahela series, i just borrowed from the quebec series, I don't plan on doing multiple repaints on the same set, so there will be more for you :D:D (Although I may have given some other people ideas, sorry :p:D)
lancer: thanks a lot, i've been planning to do it for a while, and I just jumped into it without thinking. If I thought about it I may have stopped and said to myself "you idiot, what are you doing?!" ;)
Here's an idea, maybe I could do commission work for some of you guys who are unsure about doing it, or don't have youthful eyes or a steady hand? :D

Great stuff! I love conversions, and you have done an excellent job of it! I know it is horrifying, even sacreligious, to rip into some of these figures, but hey...now you own a one of a kind.

You really did a beautiful job on the conversion...

I'm so scared to change a thing on my figures...

I'm afraid I would ruin it for resale if I ever wanted to discard it.

Great job though.
