The trailer for the new Napoleon film looks impressive. Directed by Ridley Scott, it looks like a huge production piece worthy of the period. I believe he will be making a second Gladiator film next.

Where did you see the trailer? All that I've been able to find are fan-made ones and some shots of the production in the UK.

Sorry to all Forum members, looks like i have been taken in by new Ridley Scott film trailer Napoleon shown on Youtube. I saw it before comments started coming in doubting it's authenticity.

This is going to be spectacular, love the overhead battle shots...................looks like Italy, Egypt, Austerlitz, Eylau, Russia, France and Waterloo.........I'm guessing three hours long?

Two hours, 27 minutes.

Outstanding.

The battles look worthy enough to watch the series.
I agree with George; that Sharpe was awesome but did some cheap battles scenes (I liked the camp scenes though - and the uniforms). Also, that Napoleon miniseries was good enough but lacked military Historical accuracy, though Eylau was close enough and cool IMO.
This may be the best new thing to watch for Dad & me.

Definitely on my watch list!!!!!!

However I read abt the prodn on wiki

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_(2023_film)

the cast roles seem to suggest a focus on the earlier phase of Nap rise to power, Barras
Naps uniform is early consulate pre empire style. If so, a younger man Shld have been chosen to play him? Joaquin Phoenix is wonderfully suited for the later Nap look in grey coat etc.

marshals Ney and Davout are mentioned but no Murat????

Yes looks good, something I'll be interested in watching.

My guess is it will be more character focused than battle focused. I'm thing we'll get some epic scenes of battles, but they might be relatively short (think of the Roma Legion battle at the begging of Gladiator). Regardless, the overhead scene of the cavalry charge showing the scale of these battles along with the British Infantry formed into square is enough for this to be a must see for me. And personally I usually love Joaquin Phoenix as an actor.

I'm really looking forward to it and hopefully the Battle scenes will be longer then the little teasers, GOD knows my copies of the Russian version of War and Piece and Waterloo could use some company.
