As we are within a week of the Chicago Toy Soldier Show (OTSN), I have been preparing for the show by reviewing the websites of various manufacturers for new product announcements. Many of the manufacturers will introduce these new products at the Show, and I am very anxious to inspect (buy?) these new sets:
1) East of India: Ken's new line of ancient Greeks -- 12 different figures to start a phalanx!
2) Figarti: James and Rick finally introducing their WWII Pacific theater Marines, unexpected modern Iraq war figures with buildings, and limited edition Flying Tigers P-40! I am hoping this plane is built from separate metal pieces like their amazing Japanese tank.
3) Frontline: Gerard and Howard's new Normandy village modular scenic system, new figures for Zulu Wars, and new ACW figures.
4) King & Country: Fields of Battle, limited edition winter Tiger tank, new Imperial China figures, and the surprises hinted by Andy!!! :D

Are there other new figures or products fellow forum members are anxious to see? Looking forward to meeting you at the Show!!!

Look for prototypes of Contes plastic GI,s.
Check out the preview figure on his site. If the rest are half as good, and they are released in a timely manner, Lord forgive me for any bad thoughts I ever had about Conte.

You're right. They look great. Some of the figures look similar to the ONTC figures by Ken Olsen. Is he doing the sculpting?

I would probably expect something from Northwest Trading Company(Mich Toys) to go along with all the new and latest FOV stuff. Its funny two years ago there was hardly any FOV or 21st Century items there and then last year it was an explosion of FOV. I would expect an increase in the 21st line presence this year. George from MinuteMan usually has some new diorama pieces to sell and his room display is always great.Figarti surprised me last year and I hope to see some good things this year.Andy,he always has something new in his room to show. Will Build-a-rama be there this year?? They seem to be making quite a bit of newer stuff that goes with the K&C line.
Its all good....

Hi,
If Build a Rama are making new material to go with K&C that's great news. It seems to me that there is a relative lack of diorama stuff to go with K&C's larger scale, it's all mosly 1/35 or 1/32. But I guess diorama producers are starting to acknowledge the need for 1/30 scale stuff, with K & C as popular as it is now. JG Miniatures is now starting 1/30 stuff, and now Build-a-Rama. I'll try and check it out, and I'd love any information on those new products. After all, K&C figures do deserve the best sceneries, don't they?

Happy collecting,
Paulo

Steven, I believe the first set of Conte GI,s, the ones that will be at OTSN are the same figures as Ken Osen did for ONTC. Conte bought the rights to do them in plastic.
The second set were done by Ortiz, however the bad news on those is that they are not expected untill the winter of 06. The mass produced first group is expected this December.
Now if you follow Conte as I have for the past 6 years the winter of 06 could very well be the winter of 08, and this December could be theDecember of 06, it,s a crap shoot.
As for Build O Rama, I just got an email from Sierra Toys they will have his new morter pit, I seen it on ebay and it is nice. Plus quite a few other dealer are now carrying his line.
I,ve also been informed that besides Barzo,s Lewis & Clark Set. he may have a surprise.
Along with all the new stuff, meeting the guys from this board and the meeting with Andy, OTSN 05 is shapeing up to be the best show ever.

Paulo, speaking of JG Minatures, have you seen the 8 new facades he did to extend the M38 Ruined house and rubble set (M38a to M38h)? I love the flexibility they appear to give. Unfortunately, these new pieces may be closer to 1/32 or 1/35. At 9.5" height, they are the same height as K&C's "New Normandy Village" (NV10 to NV16), which appear small when used with the new BOB figures. I hope to inspect these pieces at the Show and see if they will work with the newer K&C stuff.

Hi Steven,
From what I've seen on photos and from what Mr. John Gittins says, these new products are excellent but K&C figures do not fit in doorways, they are too large. I could not manage to add a photo to this message, but you can check out photos of K&C figures in front of those buildings at Michigan Toy Soldiers, New Releases, Prefabricated Diorama Scenery: the figures are indeed taller than the doors.

Best regards,
Paulo

Paulo,
Michigan Toy Soldiers appear to have DD64 "Tommy Patrol" in front of the JG facades. You're right, the figures look much taller than the doorways. Hoping JG will eventually do something similar in 1/30th scale.
Yours truly,
Steven

Some of the NV buildings go rather well with the K & C soldiers. The boulangerie building doorway is a bit small but as backdrops I think they're excellent and never really thought about the doorways that much. They're just excellent pieces.

Hi There! You are correct, the new JG building sets are great and designed to be modular so you can set them up to fit your display. Although they are a bit smaller than the K&C figures, they still make great backdrops, and this is very effective if the display is limited to vehicles.
I also have to plug our own line ONWTC... We had three new WWII sets for sale, showed three more prototype WWII sets and unveiled our first two ACW sets...The 1st Michigan Light Artillery and the 5th Louisiana Infantry. We hope all five of these new sets will be available by the end of the first quarter 2006.
Other new news is the sale of W. Britain's to First Gear, The hiring of Richard Walker as Manager and the good fortune for me to be one of the principle new sculptors! We will keep you posted.

That's a photo of an Austin that George took at the Chicago show. That's a diorama for Fields of Battle made by Andy's brother. I asked Andy when I saw this if he planned to produce this in the future, near or far. He said he wasn't sure and was thinking about it. That particular one is just a prototype. It's very nice to be sure.
