NEW RELEASES FOR JUNE 2022
THE AGE OF ARTHUR
ANGLO SAXON/DANISH SHIELDWALL

The death of King
Edward the Confessor of England in January 1066 had triggered a succession struggle in which a variety of contenders from across north-western Europe fought for the English throne. These claimants included the King of Norway, Harald Hardrada.

The Battle of Stamford Bridge took place at the village of Stamford Bridge, East Riding of Yorkshire, in England on 25 September 1066, between an English army under King Harold Godwinson and an invading Norwegian force led by King Harald Hardrada and the English king's brother Tostig Godwinson. After a bloody battle, both Hardrada and Tostig along with most of the Norwegians were killed. The battle has traditionally been presented as symbolising the end of the Viking Age,

Harold's victory over the invading Viking army was short-lived. Three days after the battle at Stamford Bridge, on 28 September, a second invasion army led by William, Duke of Normandy, landed in Pevensey Bay, Sussex, on the south coast of England. Harold had to immediately turn his troops around and force-march them southwards to intercept the Norman army. Less than three weeks after Stamford Bridge, on 14 October 1066, the English army was decisively defeated and King Harold II fell in action at the Battle of Hastings, beginning the Norman conquest of England

Agreed. Even huscarls

Yeh agree with that. Not even all housecarls had mail. No Fyrdman would have mail or a sword. Diesnt matter what they are called they are the best Saxons ever made.

The Shield wall is one of my favourite ranges, just had a large injection of Saxons and Vikings to add to my wall and attackers. Spent around £1287 with someone readjusting their collection, used some of the funds from selling my K & C Napoleonic collection.

I will have when i collect them a wall of 53 Saxons and 5 Houscarl adding some backbone, while i have 43 Vikings. I went down the earlier Saxon period, reather than the 1066 period. The Bernard Cornwall books of the period are an inspiration. That is why i will hold back on a few as i fel they will not fit into my diorama, why i made the comment on the 2 new sets, great looking figures and will go excellent in the 1066 period, but not mine.

I echo Jason Foote comment, just keep them coming and possibly a Viking village raiding sub-series. Anyone any ideas where this range will go? It can only go so far with shield wall and attacking figures, but there are a lot of options.

Barkman, now you are talking. I love the Saxon village idea. If John can do the fur trade trading post he could do a great Saxon village.

I have some of the Conte Viking Rampaging range, but i think John would take it to another level, options are massive, civilians, anilmals, buildings, sub range attack on a church or monastery with priests etc. Plus if designed correctly people could buy and collect according to the cost and size restrictions we all have. Other than the boat/ship, which looks outstanding, cannot think another way of developing the range, sooner or later we all will have 'enough' Saxons and Viking for our Walls and Attacking.

Update that matters to none but us:

1066 by JJD this year's Xmas. We will wait for some Genpei-ers and Trojan War and open El Cid later

With Conte over 100 figs again...
What a great range! Kudos to JJD again

Not sure what "update" means but really looking forward to Saxon and (hopefully) Viking archers! And "1066" can't really be complete without Harald Hadrada and a few Varangian-looking Vikings (fingers and toes crossed)!

Bests,
Chris

Originally i was following your path. I decided to buy a few Normans and thought i could make a little skirmish diorama. But as with everything John makes, his Normans are the best ever made and i was completely hooked. I have them all except the William mounted figure. I get the historical record but i want a leader who leads, not a gut playing peek a boo. Hope John makes an alternate William Duke of Normandy figure.

We will use JJD's William as as noble, maybe Bishop Odo. We have Aeroart's William - our 1st Russian-made buy along with Richard I as a Crusader!
Maybe he will make an alternate William and a Harald Hardrade. Only time will tell.
I agree about the Normans - I have never seen better much less in this quantity.
Thinking about Bretons now myself...
Happy Collecting!

"Update" was an inside comment about what we are opening every Christmas; only known to those "loremasters" who follow even our congregate posts.
I'm surprised there is no Viking Harald. Maybe JJD is waiting to make a Stamford Bridge. Maybe he will make a Saxon village pillaged along Harald's (or any Viking chief's) path...
Vinland and finishing prototypes for now it seems - though John seems to love surprises.

I'll cross my fingers with you at least...
Happy Collecting

Paddy, get the Bretons, they are fantastic. After i collected the Normans i thought “ oh well, but i wont get the allies, just stick with the Normans”. But now i have all the Bretons and am super happy i have them. Great light cavalry
