NEW RELEASES FOR MARCH 2020
THE CONQUEST OF AMERICA
THE AZTEC EMPIRE

The Aztec Empire flourished between c. 1345 and 1521 and, at its greatest extent, covered most of northern Mesoamerica. Aztec warriors were able to dominate their neighbouring states and permit rulers such as Motecuhzoma II to impose Aztec ideals and religion across Mexico. Highly accomplished in agriculture and trade, the last of the great Mesoamerican civilizations was also noted for its art and architecture which ranks amongst the finest ever produced on the continent.
The empire continued to expand from 1430 and the Aztec military - bolstered by conscription of all adult males, men supplied from allied and conquered states, and such elite groups as the Eagle and Jaguar warriors - swept aside their rivals. Aztec warriors wore padded cotton armour, carried a wooden or reed shield covered in hide, and wielded weapons such as a super sharp obsidian sword-club (macuahuitl), a spear or dart thrower (atlatl), and bow and arrows. Elite warriors also wore spectacular feathered and animal skin costumes and headdresses to signify their rank. Battles were concentrated in or around major cities and when these fell the victors claimed the whole surrounding territory. Regular tributes were extracted and captives were taken back to Tenochtitlan for ritual sacrifice. In this way the Aztec empire came to cover most of northern Mexico, an area of some 135,000 square kilometres.
The Aztec state was centered on political expansion and dominance of and exaction of tribute from other city states, and warfare was the basic dynamic force in Aztec politics. Aztec society was also centered on warfare: every Aztec male received basic military training from an early age and the only possibility of upwards social mobility for commoners was through military achievement — especially the taking of captives
The sacrifice of war captives was an important part of many of the Aztec religious festivals.

The Temple Walled Shelf display is 35” wide by 5 ½” deep, and 7” high

Tenochtitlan was the capital city of the Aztec Empire. The city was built on an island in what was then Lake Texcoco in the valley of Mexico.
In the centre of Tenochtitlan was a walled square, where in temples on top of high pyramids Aztec holy men honoured their gods with colourful ceremonies and human sacrifices.

The jjDesigns Aztec Temple Complex pieces can be combined to create a suitable backdrop which can fit on a standard 36” wide shelf.
Either the exterior of the walled complex or the interior of the walled complex can be represented.

A display simular to the Roman Fort can be created, which can represent a simple shelf backdrop or a complete fort/temple complex!

SPANISH CONQUISTADORS

cq-15_3_.jpg

From the moment of Christopher Columbus' discovery of lands previously unknown to Europe in
1492, the New World captured the imagination of European adventurers. Thousands of men came
to the New World to seek fortune, glory, and land. For two centuries, these men explored the New
World, conquering any native people they came across in the name of the King of Spain (and the
hope of gold). They came to be known as the Conquistadors.

I commissioned Small Wonders Model Makers to make a large Aztec temple about a decade ago to go with my Morgan Miniatures Aztec/Conquistadors. Now this beauty can add to the diorama. No space but hey what the hell!!!!!!

Another great Pikeman, which i will order from Grey Goose in the UK. Will not get the Temple, looks great but not for me, no space, but can see where it would add to people's collections.

Looking at the picture, the new Pikeman is not in the picture of the Spanish figures for the collection, so it looks like another 7 Spanish figures, including another Pikeman. This would fit into the 'missing numbers' as the new Piikemen are number 14 and 15 and the last was number 6 and there are 7 'greyed out' figures in the picture.

I would like to get the Pikeman but the virus may be transmittable through surfaces, as per the CDC, and that’s not a risk I’m willing to take until more information is known.

Brad...

do you have a link to that story?

are you saying the safe thing to do in your mind...
is boycott all manufacturer's offerings from Asia til this clears up?

Brad...

I understand...
and I want to do what's best for myself...

Spread from contact with infected surfaces or objects

It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

This may be true, but I would need to know the duration that the COVID-19 virus can live on any surface.

It has been my knowledge that nearly 100% of viruses are not able to live on any surface for a long time.
So, if an infected person touched a figure to place in the box it's weeks before that end up in our hands.

Just wondering

NOTE: GEORGE, please take out all my figures, hold them for a while and then let me know if you get sick! {eek3}

I like that idea Larry. Let’s make George our human guinea pig {eek3}

Funniest thing about the last two post is awaiting George’s response. It should be a good one.

This may be silly but I did tell my wife to hold off on anything from amazon that comes from China for this exact reason after reading Brads post. Once of prevention.....

I talked to George and he told me that he discussed the issue with a doctor, who advised him that a virus can live on a surface anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours depending upon temperature. It’s also possible that colder temperatures may kill the virus.

However, I still like Larry’s idea: George, take the figures to bed and call us in the morning!

I don't think it is silly, but probably unwarranted.

You seem to be concerned about the Covirus-19 when there have been NO deaths in the US.
Caution my be the better path …. but …. you don't seem to worried about a far more deadly illness .... the flu???

Over 14,000 AMERICANS have "DIED" in this flu season and there have been over 250,000 Americans with verified Flu.
Many of those will die.

In total, the CDC estimates that up to 42.9 million people got sick during the
2018-2019
flu
season, 647,000 people were hospitalized and 61,200 died.

That's fairly on par with a typical season, and well below the CDC's 2017-2018 estimates of 48.8 million illnesses, 959,000 hospitalizations and 79,400
deaths.

Still, PREVENTION is better that CURING!!!

Larry,

It was mostly said in jest, and as a casual warning. One of those don’t drive tonight it’s gonna snow bad type things. I think by the time a real pandemic moves from one country to another in this fast travel world it will be too late to be concerned. I have a feeling the next one will make the Spanish flu look like child’s play. The yearly flu bug on the other hand is not a joke.
I had it in January and it progressed into pneumonia. I lost 11 lbs in 8 days. You can easily see how it kills.
