Welcome to the May 2010 releases.

Yesterday the April releases arrived in the store. Good news is that you will not be disappointed, they are terrific.

The British Grenadiers and British Line Infantry, look superb, always a favorite. We even received a sneak peek of the new BJ-006, superb, details below. Or as John put it last night on the phone, “I think they turned out rather nicely”. Yes they did, so don’t delay to long as I think they sell very fast.

We also received the Walking Indian and Scalping poles, perfect for before breakfast. The Club figure #2 arrived, as did the club figure for 2010 along with the annual; again you will not be disappointed. The annual contains photos of the sets from 2009, a list of releases, US prices, it is an absolute must for any JJ Collector, and it is beautifully produced.

So here are the goodies for next month. Hope you enjoy. With a bit of luck will have these on the web site this morning.

Best regards

New Releases for May.

RETURN TO MONONGAHELA
THE BATTLE ON THE MONONGAHELA 1755

The 1st Battalion the Essex Regiment, or 44th Regiment of Foot, was one of seven additional regiments of infantry ordered to be formed in 1740 to augment the Regular Army during the War of the Austrian Succession. This new unit then ranked as the 55th was raised by Col. James Long, of the 1st Foot Guards (Grenadier Guards).
Colonel James Long was later to be appointed to the 4th Marines and Lieut.-Colonel John Lee, from the 4th Foot, succeeded him as Colonel in 1748. Hence for a time the present 44th, then the 55th, was known as Lee's Regiment.
After the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle the 43rd Regiment (American Provincial Corps) was disbanded and the ten Marine Regiments (44th to 53rd) ceased to be counted with those of the Line. The 55th were then re-numbered the 44th.

THE JACOBITE REBELLION 1745
References to forms of bagpipes date right back to the Greeks 2500 years ago.
The first British reference is a Northumberland pipe around 1200, and it was around this time that the instrument became very popular right across Europe.
Most of these early bagpipes, including the Scottish ones were similar, and had two tenor drones.
The skirl of the pipes with their high penetrating notes could be heard above the noise of battle, and it was said its sound could carry up to 6 miles.
During the Jacobite rebellion of 1745, the Highland Army conscripted every piper they came across.
Even the Duke of Cumberland had pipers in his army at Culloden, though he seems to have been unclear what a bagpipe was, saying "What are these men going to do with such bundles of sticks? I can supply them with better implements of war."

THE BATTLE OF CHIPPEWA July 5th 1814
At the height of the War of 1812, the three regular army foot artillery regiments were consolidated into a single Corps of Artillery.
This change eliminated the inequalities that had existed between the three regiments. The first regiment was considered a part of the permanent peace establishment. The other two regiments belonged to the “additional military force” created by Congress in 1812. Officers could be promoted only within their respective regiments, and the new consolidation was to aid the morale and the tactical employment of the artillery as a whole.
By 1814 the differences between the uniforms of the three regiments had also been eliminated. All the units of the Corps of Artillery now had the plain dress established by the regulations of May 1st, 1813.

Mike...thanks so much for posting the new photos...I really appreciate that...

USCHART-01 is just fantastic...everything I hoped for

I have been waiting for this set for a long time...

the description says...

"There will be extra sets that can be added to this first set, including figures firing and moving the guns."

I hope John issues 2 more sets of 3 figures...but it will probably only be one more set giving a total of 6 figures...but again...since the description says sets then maybe there will be an additional 6 more figures coming...I hope so...

still...just the three more figures mentioned would be enough to man 3 artillery pieces...

USCH 08, 09, 10 and 11 would really round out a nice artillery battery diorama.

Sad to here this..

"BCH-03 will be the final regular line infantry set for the 1st Royal Scots Regiment."

Final set...

I will get a couple of these to fill out my line...

very similar to BCH-06...but still...without the hats...they look a lot different...

JR-12...The "Piper" looks great...I have been asking for him for a long time...

BJ-06..."The Grenadiers...Barrell's Own"...is a must have for me too...

multiples for sure...

I think we need more Highlanders...mine are sorely outnumbered...

in the picture is another set of the not yet announced...

boxed in black...a teaser...

guess we might see them next month..

Glad to see Club Set 4 is of Ensign Durantaye and Cadet Richelieu is finally coming out...

When I first saw him in Randy's calendar...I knew I wanted him...

I guess the Snow Shoes series has finally come close to an end now...

if Durantaye has been relegated to Collector's Club status...

then I don't expect much more from this series...

John said...

"The next couple of Collectors’ Club Special sets will be for the Battle On Snowshoes Series. The first set will be two French officers."

so...I guess maybe a set or two more...as a Club set...

Michael, I believe on closer examination you will find that the "black boxed" grenadiers are the just released BJ-05 set ;-)

But I totally agree - we need more Highlanders!

Hahahahaha...

they are...

I knew they were not on my shelf...

John's website doesn't show them...

the last place I should have checked...

was what's in the mail...

I have 3 sets ordered already...

thank you Niels.

I better join the 2010 club to get that snowshoes set. Others sets look good.

Snowshoes a definite for me.BM-21 a maybe.I ordered last month's BM but not sure I want to go there as I have hardly any Monongahela sets.I'll think about it.We definitely need more dead/wounded though for all ranges.

Same here too ... I really like these Redcoats. What happens to BCH-013 ? .. and the " marching/ casually advancing" poses. Perhaps if we asked politely, John may re-consider at some point in the future. :)

" ... the final regular line infantry .. " So what's up next ? Will that be the Glengarry Light Infantry as premiered by the 2010 Club figure ? Hope so as I like the Green jackets too :)

The new arty pieces are superbly posed and look forward to multiple crews and a limber set :D :D :D

I seem to remember John saying he didn't intend to make a marching set for the BCH's, I may be wrong...but I'm pretty sure he said he was not going to...usually his marching sets are the 05 series...but he is usually accommodating if he gets enough requests...

BCH-13 might be the British artillery set from the London show we already previewed..it will definitely be produced...

Mark...I'm like you...since I sold off my B of M's, I'm reluctant to collect these late sets...

I know what will happen.I'll put them out for a month, then box them for a month, then I'll sell them a couple of months after that.I'm actually more interested in The Black Hawk Templar series at the moment.

Love John's latest releases. They are all nice, but BoM is my main interest. Great looking reloading sets that don't have that "static" look so common with loading musket figures.

Definitely need more Highlanders charging the British lines.

For the Sudan campaigns I wonder if John is working with or around the W, Britains releases? I know he is planning on releasing Dervishes this summer.
It would be great if the two companies could coordinate their products so the range would be that much more expansive.

I read somewhere that, while not strictly co-ordinated, the two series will be compatible. I cannot remember where I read this or who said it, but I believe it was one of the two companies. -- Al
