THE TOWN OF OLD YANGSHUO, 1899.

The year is 1899 in Yangshuo is a popular tourist county and city near Guilin, Guangxi. Along your travels you see mountains, winding rivers and sights to take your breath away. The Li River runs from Guilin to Yangshuo and is the centerpiece of any trip to northeastern Guangxi Province.

The gorgeous Karst peaks give you surprises at each bend of the river trip. Water buffalo patrol the fields, peasants work in rice paddies, school kids and fisherman float by on bamboo rafts. With its breathtaking scenery and taste of a life far removed from the concrete metropolis, the scenery along the river has become one of China's top tourist destinations.

Cormorant fishing is a traditional way of life on the Li River. This method of fishing has been in existence for hundreds of years. The cormorants are trained to dive into the river among the school of fish that live in the clear water. After catching a fish the birds return to the boat where the fisherman removes the fish from the bird. The bird is prevented from swallowing the fish by a ring that is placed around the neck of the bird. The bird is rewarded for its work by its owner. The birds usually fish much better at night than during the day.

Hummmmm .... ..... now this is a different series. The possibilities are endless.
Sorta' like the K&C Honk Kong series, but hopefully more peaceful and soothing as compared to the hustle and bustle of city life

At one figure (two if you count the boat) it is hard to imagine where it might lead but ......

Now the question is do we wait until more is fleshed out or jump in now?

Thoughts?

Okay, I just did a Google / Bing Image search for 1899 Yangshuo, China and Li River. WOW.
Doesn't look like Maine. :smile2:

Take a look and see some of the ideas that my be floating around John's head. --- Larry

I do like this piece...

can the new promo team comment on how far John intends to take this range?

Beautiful...can the "Boxers" be far behind?

I think this is fantastic and giving serious thought to buying it. I never started SOHK because there was just too much -- where to start. You could get lost and bankrupt. This could be different.

Nicely done. I can see how these might be very popular in China. If John gets around to Chinese figures from WWII, that would be interesting. A lot of great possibilities there that have been largely ignored in the market.

Michael - very soon you will see this piece in the water of the hong kong dio you made for me! :)

Think I am along for the river ride. Been wanting water buffalo so hopefully some in the pipeline. This series will comply with what I like best 'at rest' style. A series that will take a long time to develop, so easy on the pocket. Robin.

Guess it would be nice to know where this series is going, just a hint of what might be expected in the future. As this is a unique series, no chance of competitors stealing any thunder, so no harm in knowing a little of what might be down the river. This may help some collectors to decide to start from day one to be on board. As I collect Imperial China, I can absorb this figure even if it's a one off. The blurb that comes with the figure does not really give any clues, so how about it John.^&grin, Robin.

I never mind being a collector whose ranges are not on top of the popularity lists. For example, I really like the JJD 1812 USCH and BCH line (Not John's most popular!) and the K&C AWI (AR's and BR's) also not Andy's best seller.

I also do the St. Francis RSF and that is fairly popular at the moment. ...:D

Anyway, a line in which John is not constantly pushing out dozens of new figures each month is fine (actually desirable on the wallet), but my concern is a "One and Done."

I still would like to see some Glengarry L.I. Fensibles to go with the Club Figure; more "peaceful" RSF Indians; Officers for the BCH series; additional 1812 Marines; and such. So starting a new series that is so ..... speculative :rolleyes2: .... is a bit risky.

Okay ... $69 is not bad, I was thinking it would be about $62-$65. In reality it is two pieces, the figure rowing and boat/accessories.

You could get a multiples of this set. Then with a fairly simple repaint of the shirt (at least for many of the talents on this forum) it would easily give you different looking pieces ... :rolleyes2:

I wonder if the dealers will have them by Valley Forge show? I would like to get a close look at one.

I do not collect these types of lines but I do admire them. This piece is yet another example of John's immense talent and creativity.

Besides being a very talented artist john has become quite the businessman.
He seems to have his production under control with monthly releases and consistent quality. Now he is tapping the Chinese market which has both economic potential and "political" benefits.
Local governments should look favorably on his Chinese themed products and help keep the factories
Motivated and stable. This view is from my own experiences manufacturing in china for almost 25 years.
To say the least I am very impressed with JJD's business model.
